You will be part of Technology and Solutions Development for HVDC applications, within Hitachi Energy in Ludvika. The HVDC technology has been on the market for the past 60 years and is used, among other things, to transmit power over long distances with minimal losses, using overhead lines, underground and submarine cable systems.
The Valve Development Department is a part Technology and Solutions Development office in Ludvika, and it is responsible for the development of new HVDC and SVC converter valves. HVDC converter valves are used to convert AC to DC, and vice versa, and are essential for HVDC power transmissions. SVC converter valves are used in SVC systems, to support and stabilize AC systems. The Valve Development Department is focusing mainly on electrical and mechanical design and development activities and works in close collaboration with the global HVDC organization. As R&D Engineer you will contribute with own ideas to identify, propose, and implement innovative technology development and solutions. Solve industrial problems independently.
Your responsibilities
Be part of new product development projects focusing on high power converter valves for HVDC and FACTS applications starting from idea generation, simulation, circuit design, prototyping and verification of new converter solutions
Define technical requirements and perform electrical design calculations and simulations to optimize the design. The theoretical calculations will be combined with high power testing in our test laboratories to verify the designs
Take responsibility for specification, selection, qualification and verification of semiconductors and other passive components in the valve
Specify testing requirements and participate in various product verification tests from early prototype testing to final verification of converter valve design to improve/optimize the solutions
Collaborate with cross functional engineering teams such as mechanical, system design, insulation, electronics in the design process
Document R&D results in the form of technical reports and presentations

Your background
Master of Science in Power Engineering with specialization in power electronics
3+ years of experience design, analysis and testing of medium power or high-power converters
Experience with specification, selection and qualification of high voltage power semiconductor devices, and passive components like DC capacitors and other electrical components
Good understanding of converter topologies, gate driver and converter control
Knowledge of power equipment and power system aspects would be an advantage
Proficiency in circuit simulation and computation tools such as PSCAD, PSpice, MATLAB
Good collaboration and communication skills to thrive in multi-cultural environment
As you will be part of a global business, fluency in English is required, written, and spoken alike. Proficiency in Swedish is a plus
