Sandvik Coromant R&D Materials and Processes in Västberga, Stockholm employs about 150 people with more than 20 nationalities. We are part of the business area Sandvik Machining Solutions within the global industrial group Sandvik and work with development of hard materials for metal cutting.
The materials laboratory has processing equipment for production of test materials on both lab and pilot study scales, as well as advanced equipment for testing and analysis. The Materials Characterization department is involved in all steps of the materials development, from raw materials to worn inserts, by characterizing materials' composition, cracks, grain sizes, wear patterns, coating thicknesses, etc.
There are nine research engineers and nine technicians in the department. The team working with XRD today consists of a senior engineer and a technician and we are now looking for an R&D Associate Engineer to strengthen our team working with materials characterization, especially XRD.
Key performance areas
As an R&D Associate Engineer you will run the XRD equipment and help develop new test methods. You will also run other types of instruments, and by combining your results with your colleagues materials knowledge you will take an active part in product development within Sandvik Coromant. In this role you are responsible for the department?s ordering system, which is an access-based database, and you evaluate and monitor new technology and equipment relevant to this area. You network with many global contacts, internally and externally.
Your profile
We are looking for someone with a Master's in Engineering or the equivalent. An MSc. in Materials Characterization, Chemistry or Physics and knowledge of XRD is advantageous. Experience working in an R&D organization and with materials characterization, XRD analysis, different types of microscopy (LOM, SEM, etc.) and access database handling is also advantageous. You have excellent communication skills in English, in both writing and speaking, while skills in Swedish and other languages are a plus.
You are a problem-solver and an analytical and strategic thinker who takes the initiative and has good cooperative abilities. You are outgoing, good at networking and gladly share your knowledge with others. This role includes hands-on lab experiments, so it is an advantage if you like numerical analysis, technical creativeness and problem solving. You are detail oriented and thorough, but can still focus on results and delivery to deadlines. The position is well suited to someone who wants to become a technical specialist.
