Duty Station: The SIWI headquarters in Stockholm, Sweden with international travel.
SIWI is looking for a highly motivated and experienced project coordinator to lead the project EU Water Initiative Africa Working Group Policy Development and Implementation of Sustainable Water Management in Africa.
The project coordinator will play a key role in relation to stakeholders and will ensure an effective management of project resources. The position includes a wide range of tasks such as providing overall support to the African Ministers? Council on Water AMCOW, drafting and development of project documents as well as communicating project progress to stakeholders.
The duties of the project coordinator will for instance be to:
Coordinate and manage project activities among the actors participating in the project, EUWI AWG, the AMCOW Technical Advisory Committee TAC and others. Organize annual Africa Working Group meetings.
Prepare and manage the implementation of annual work plans in fulfillment of the overarching EC UNDP agreement.
Prepare regular reporting to the EC UNDP on the status of the project, impact assessments, communication, and advocacy.
Support African sub-regional water resources planning processes e.g. through the arrangement of regional workshops.
Facilitate creation of forums for exchanging best practices and innovative approaches to water supply and sanitation.
Provide strategic advice to the formulation of strategies for increased targeting of aid to the countries with the most extensive needs in regards to local water supply and sanitation.
Support the alignment of activities by the EUWI, AWG and AMCOW, for instance through regular newsletters.
Facilitate a close coordination between AMCOW and relevant African financial partners and international donors.
Have overall responsibility for financial management and accounting.
Monitor and follow-up project activities with due consideration to budgetary issues, including preparation of detailed reporting in line with donor requirements.
Qualifications and Competencies
An advanced university degree in a field relevant to water management, sanitation, development or capacity building.
Minimum 10-years of experience working with development issues and solid experience in programme management in relation to water and/ or sanitation.
At least 5 years of experience working in an international context and relevant field experience from developing countries. UN and EU experience is considered an asset.
Proven ability to coordinate activities of a complex nature in a multi-stakeholder environment.
Experience from working with international programmes.
Good organizational skills and proven ability to strategically phrase objectives and meet deadlines.
Excellent communication and analytical skills..
Ability to promote effective collaboration between individuals, organisations and networks.
A consultative, collaborative and participatory way of working.
Willingness to travel abroad frequently.
In-country water experience from Africa.
English and, preferably French and/or Portuguese, or any other African language.
