We are looking for a professor of Chemistry for a permanent position at the School of Science and Technology.

Subject area
The subject area for this position is chemistry.

Background
Örebro University is seeking a professor in chemistry to strengthen and expand our research and education in chemistry.

Örebro University is a modern university with around 1,600 employees and 17,000 students, offering a broad range of subjects and degree programmes. The position is based at the Man-Technology-Environment Research Centre (MTM) (https://www.oru.se/english/research/research-environments/ent/mtm/) at the School of Science and Technology. MTM is an important part of Örebro university's profile area Pollutants and Society combining expertise from multiple subject areas for a more comprehensive approach in the transition towards a toxic-free environment.

MTM's mission is to advance knowledge of how organic and inorganic pollutants behave in the environment, supporting the sustainable use of chemicals. Research focuses on persistent organic pollutants, metals, and emerging contaminants such as PFAS, endocrine disruptors, and plastics, using state-of-the-art analytical and molecular techniques. Facilities include advanced chromatography and mass spectrometry platforms, as well as resources for environmental forensics.

Our work spans from molecular mechanisms to large-scale societal impacts, addressing both environmental and human health. The centre is dedicated to support evidence based practical solutions, such as remediation and treatment strategies, methods for destroying hazardous substances, and approaches for safe chemical circulation, to achieve a more sustainable and circular society.

Duties and responsibilities
As professor, you will normally spend most of your working hours on research. Your duties and responsibilities include working actively to bring in external research grants to the subject, take overall responsibility for its research activities, and monitor its development internationally. As professor, you are expected to engage in education at all three levels and to communicate and collaborate around your own and the subject's research activities. You are moreover expected to make yourself available for management and administrative assignments at the university.

It is considered meritorious for the professor in chemistry to strengthen the team dedicated to creating solutions for a safer and more sustainable society. At the core of this position is the challenge of addressing chemicals of concern, support the development strategies for remediation and treatment, enabling the safe restoration of contaminated environments, and support the development of innovating methods for the destruction of hazardous substances. Equally important is the pursuit of safe and sustainable circulation of chemicals, supporting the transition to a circular society where risks to people and ecosystems are minimized.

The successful candidate will strengthen the chemistry subject, contributing to the area of environmental chemistry and applied processes, and be an innovative leader with a collaborative spirit, ready to inspire colleagues, foster synergies, and contribute to a vibrant and growing research environment.
