The Institute of Biomedicine at the Sahlgrenska Academy consists of six collaborating departments for preclinical as well as clinical research (www.biomedicine.gu.se). The research the
Department of Medical Biochemistry and Cell Biology covers basic mechanisms of gene expression and DNA replication, glycobiology and functional studies of mucins in the
gastrointestinal tract, molecular virology and microbiology, and angiogenesis and developmental biology. Several research groups are actively involved in cancer research and partners of the Sahlgrenska Cancer Centre. Subject area Medical Biochemistry Specific subject description
Refers to the molecular basis for physiological and cellular processes of biomedical significance.

Job assignments
We are now recruiting a new member to our Department for a position as professor in Medical
Biochemistry. The candidate should pursue active and internationally successful research. We
expect the candidate to contribute to the development of research at our Institute in particular
concerning the molecular basis for physiological and cellular processes of biomedical
significance. The applicant should also in collaboration with colleagues take active part in our
educational programmes for students in medicine and pharmacology.
The position of professor in Medical Biochemistry includes research and training of graduate
students. The applicant should also contribute to strengthening of our experimental science as
well as our educational programmes.
Eligibility
The qualifications for academic positions are given in Chapter 4, Section 3 - 4 of the Higher
Education Ordinance.
Demonstrated scientific excellence and educational skills and experience.
Assessment
Regulations for the evaluation of qualifications for academic positions are given in Chapter 4,
Section 3 - 4 of the Higher Education Ordinance.
The primary selection criterion is scientific excellence. The second selection criterion is
administrative and educational skills and experience. We also expect the candidate to have an
interest and ability to communicate science to society and to the general public. The candidate
should display an ability and interest to collaborate with university colleagues. The successful applicant may also be asked to complete an educational training programme within the first year
of employment.
