hela Sverige We seek a postdoctoral researcher in biology, specializing in environmental molecular biology, to the School of Science and Technology, The Life Science Center. The Postdoctoral researcher will be working within the Molecular Biology group at Örebro University. (
http://www.oru.se/English/Research/Research-teams/Research-teams-by-research-subject/Research-team/?rdb=4). The research team is financed by the Swedish Research Council, the Knowledge foundation and SIDA, Sweden. The project "BioTest" is financed by the Knowledge foundation Sweden and is part of a study on the influence of abiotic factors on gene expression as a measure of biological effects for improved risk assessment of recycled waste. There is a need for a sustainable society to increase the use of waste as raw material and to recycle waste as a starting point for new products. One aspect of this is to improve our understanding of bioavailability of metals in waste and how this translates to biological effects in living organisms to improve risk assessment. This is needed for a responsible and safe use of waste in new products. The project is therefore aimed at identifying factors modulating bioavailability of metals and how this affects homeostatic mechanisms in model species.
Duties and responsibilities
The tasks will primarily consist of research on environmental effects on gene regulation in Daphnia magna, using molecular methods, standardized toxicity tests, behavioural tests and application of risk assessment protocols. The research requires experience in molecular biology, toxicology and animal experimentation. The position may include (to a maximum of 10%) participating in biology teaching.
Eligibility
Eligible for the appointment as postdoctoral researcher are applicants holding a doctoral degree in biological sciences or biotechnology. The doctoral degree should have been awarded no more than three years prior to the application deadline. Candidates who have obtained their doctoral degree prior to that may however also be considered if special grounds exist (leave of absence due to illness, parental leave, clinical duties, an elected position in a trade union, or other similar circumstances).
Assessment criteria
We attach particular importance to documented skills and that the applicant has exhibited independence in research and in terms of using environmental, biochemical and molecular techniques as well as application of biological data for risk assessment. We also attach great importance to competence in both written and oral communication of research and international research experience.
Information
The position is full-time and limited to two years. The start date of the position is 2018-10-01.
The salary depends on the successful candidate's qualifications and experience. For further information contact Professor Per-Erik Olsson,
per-erik.olsson@oru.se, phone 019-301244 or Professor Jana Jass (Head of Biology),
jana.jass@oru.se, phone 019-303943.
