The core activities of the department are research, doctoral education and undergraduate education for medical and biomedical students.

Unit
The Unit of Infectious Diseases is an active and internationally successful research unit. Here clinical, experimental and epidemiological research is conducted in close collaboration with the Division of Clinical Microbiology, KI, and the Infectious Disease clinic at the Karolinska University Hospital. The unit has a leading role in several national and international consortia and networks.

A postdoctoral research fellow position is available in the research group of Professor Anders Sönnerborg. His research group consists presently of one senior researcher, one assistant professor, one post-doc, six PhD-students and a bioinformatican. His research has a strong focus on translational projects and a clinical research group is closely associated with the laboratory. The main research area is chronic viral infections with special focus on HIV. For the post-doctoral research fellow position, the work will be focused on finding new strategies for the cure of human immunodeficiency virus type 1 (HIV-1) infection using multidisciplinary approach.

Duties
The project is a multi-approach translational research with focus on experimental and translational studies on HIV cure. The candidate is expected to work with infectious patient material and perform basic molecular biological techniques like qPCR, molecular cloning and gene manipulation, expression along with basic cell culture techniques. The candidate has to run the cutting edge assays like RNAflow. RNAscope. Therefore strong knowledge in FACS and microscopy is essential. The candidate is also expected to liase with multidisciplinary fileds including bio-engineering to development of newer high through-put techniques and clinical science.
