The department is involved in advanced basic scientific, clinical and epidemiological research. The department is one of the largest departments of education at Karolinska Institutet.
Division
The Department of Laboratory of Medicine, located in Flemingsbergs Campus, is one of the Karolinska Institutet's largest departments with 7 research divisions including the Clinical Research Centre (CRC).
The Centre provides the facilities needed for cell- and molecular biology research and the possibility to perform research in vivo. The position is 3-6 months starting June 1st with the possibility for prolongation and placed in the research group of Caroline Palm Apergi. Palm Apergi's research group works primarily on different drug delivery systems against pediatric leukemia. The lab has different on-going projects related to the delivery and application of therapeutic oligonucleotides and a wide number of close collaborations related to the leukemia research with labs both within and outside Karolinska Institutet.
Duties
The post-doctoral project will mostly focus on drug development and analysis in pediatric leukemia cell lines and primary cells from patients and healthy donors. The first part of the work concentrates on investigating the Polo-like kinase (Plk) family expression in established cancer cell lines, patient samples and healthy donors. The second part of the project will involve comparison of small molecules and RNAi prodrugs targeting Plk1, potential combination treatments with existing drugs and off target studies.
Prospective candidates should be highly motivated with the ability to work independently and as part of a team. The applicant should hold a PhD degree in molecular biology and experimental oncology. Practical lab experience is essential, especially in the following areas: RNA expression analysis (RT-PCR, qPCR), delivery of oligonucleotide therapeutics, protein analysis (Western blot and IP), cell culture work (with primary cells or leukemic cell lines) and genome editing techniques (CRISPR-Cas9, shRNA, siRNA). The applicant should have previous experience with flow cytometry and FlowJo analysis. In addition, applicants with prior experience working with cell cycle regulating proteins are preferential. Previous publications within the field of RNA are of merit.
The application is open for highly motivated candidates with previous experience of working with relevant molecular biology methods. Applicants with previous experience in these areas will be prioritized. Excellent proficiency in both spoken and written English is highly desired. We are looking for an energetic and passionate person who fits in, and actively contributes to our team.
