Strong research and attractive study programmes attract scientists and students from around the world. With new knowledge and new perspectives, the University contributes to a better future.
A postdoctoral research position is available immediately to study B cell and antibody immunodominance in response to influenza A virus infection and vaccination in the recently established Angeletti lab (www.angelettilab.com) at the Department of Microbiology and Immunology, Institute of Biomedicine at the University of Gothenburg.
Subject area
Viral Immunology
Subject area description
The goal of the research group is to further elucidate the rules of B cell and antibody immunodominance (Angeletti & Yewdell, Trends in Immunol, 2018) with the overarching goal of improving current influenza vaccination. The postdoctoral project will build on recent mechanistic finding on B cell immunodominance (Angeletti et al., Nature Immunol, 2017) and will aim at further characterizing immunodominance at mucosal sites and at defining transcriptional signatures driving immunodominance.
Job assignments
The successful candidate will characterize anti-viral B cell responses at mucosal sites with particular emphasis on IgA producing cells, their localization and specificity. Further, the candidate will characterize transcriptional signatures of B cells recognizing different antigenic sites on the same molecule. Methods that will be used include in vivo mouse model, flow cytometry, ELISA/ELISPOT, virus neutralization, single cell sequencing and data analysis.
Eligibility
An achieved doctoral degree is compulsory for a position as postdoctor at Göteborg University. The doctoral thesis shall be in a relevant area according to the specific position stated here. Since a position as postdoctor aims to give new holders of the doctorate the opportunity mainly to strengthen and develop their scholarly proficiency, we aim for those who have a doctoral degree not older than 3 years counting from last date of application.
The qualifications for academic positions are given in Chapter 4, Section 3 - 4 of the Higher Education Ordinance.
Assessment
The ideal candidate would have a PhD in immunology/virology. Great emphasis will be placed on previous scientific productivity.
Candidates with knowledge of bioinformatics, analysis of single cell RNA sequencing and/or analysis of BCR repertoire sequencing will be prioritized. Proficiency with in vivo mouse model, multicolor flow cytometry and other basic immunological techniques (ELISA, ELISPOT, etc) is highly advantageous.
The successful candidate is expected to be highly motivated, capable to plan and execute experiments independently and to actively contribute scientifically to the group. Fluency in spoken and written English is essential.
Regulations for the evaluation of qualifications for academic positions are given in Chapter 4, Section 3 - 4 of the Higher Education Ordinance.
Employment
The employment is fulltime and temporary, two years, with placement at the Institute of Biomedicine. First day of employment as agreed.
