The Department of forest genetics and plant physiology is part of Umeå Plant Science Centre (UPSC,
https://www.upsc.se) which is a centre of excellence for experimental plant research and forest biotechnology in Northern Sweden. Our mission is to perform excellent and innovative basic research and generate knowledge that benefits forestry, agriculture, environment and society. We work across a wide range of disciplines in plant science reaching from cell biology to ecophysiology and from basic research to industrial applications. Our common goal is to understand the plants' ability to grow, adapt and acclimate to a changing world and how we can breed better plants.
A postdoc position is now available in the group of Dr. Petra Marhava at the Department of Forest Genetics and Plant Physiology/Umeå Plant Science Centre (UPSC).
About the position
Temperatures below or above the physiological optimum for plant growth induce temperature stress, which can cause detrimental and irreversible damage to plant growth and development. While most of the studies to date have focused on big-picture elements of plant responses to climate change, our research will provide insights into the molecular and cellular responses, to improve our mechanistic understanding of plant acclimation to heat and cold stress. The project will mainly work with the root of the model organism Arabidopsis thaliana and will combine state-of-the-art approaches, e.g. various microscopy techniques, molecular and cell biology and biochemistry.
Your profile
We are seeking a highly motivated plant biologist with excellent skills in confocal microscopy. Essential qualifications include prior expertise in spectroscopic techniques such as FCS and FCCS, hands-on experience with Dynamic Profiler, and proficiency in super-resolution (Airyscan) and Light sheet microsopy. The candidate must have demonstrated expertise in in situ whole mount immunolocalizations and proficiency in biochemical techniques like western blot and CoIP, which are necessary for this project. The ideal candidate must be familiar with Arabidopsis thaliana root and have a good knowledge of English. Previous experience with crop roots is an asset. Moreover, the candidate must be capable of independently planning, executing and evaluating experiments or theoretical work. Enthusiasm, responsibility, and excellent collaborative skills are key attributes we are looking for in the ideal candidate.
As postdoctoral appointments are career-developing positions for junior researchers, we are primarily looking for candidates with a doctoral degree that is three years old at most.
