SLU Swedish Species Information Centre is a national centre for species and habitats. We contribute to a sustainable management of the natural resources by collecting, analyzing and make data available, and by describing and presenting facts about biodiversity. We interact nationally and internationally, with a conservation benefit in focus. Now we recruit a person who will optimize future forestry and conservation for sustainable and multifunctional use of the forest biomass.
Duties:
You will optimize forestry, conservation and wood use to reach objectives on future revenue, biodiversity, ecosystem services and climate. Available are tools/models to simulate future forestry, species distribution and richness, ecosystem services, and climate, the latter based on Life Cycle Assessment (LCA). An integrated system is built that will allow identifying/optimizing synergies, tradeoffs and compromises in the use of forests to reach objectives for the future. Stakeholders will participate in formulating the objectives, which will account for global, EU and national strategies and policies. The work is mainly funded by the starting ForestValue project SustMultBiomass (forestvalue.org/joint-call-2021), but will also be linked to other the ongoing projects with partners across Europe.
Qualifications:
Applicants must hold a doctoral degree in ecology, forestry, environmental science or equivalent. Required is earlier research on modelling/simulating forestry, biodiversity, ecosystem services or forest-climate interactions. Good knowledge of R or Python programming is meriting. Priority will be given to applicants who have completed their PhD within three years before the application deadline. This time span is however not a requirement - we are seeking a highly motivated person who is keen to contribute to this expanding, multidisciplinary research field.
In the research collaboration at SLU Swedish Species Information Centre we interact in English. SLU Swedish Species Information Centre in general is, however, a largely Swedish-speaking workplace and collaboration with Swedish authorities and other Swedish actors takes place mainly in Swedish in speech and writing. SLU offers courses in Swedish at different levels.
