The Department of Plant Breeding conducts research, education and innovational work of strategic importance for the society's long-term sustentation of provisions, industrial raw material and energy. At the same time we strive to meet the increasing need of raw material and at the same time make the plant production more and more environment-friendly. The department operates partly at the SLU campus in Alnarp, outside of Malmö and partly at the SLU property Balsgård, outside of Kristianstad. As an integrated part of the work, the department also conducts plant breeding programs concerning apple, black currant, sea buckthorn and potatoes.
Genetic regulation of plant storage products and starch structure in higher plants.
We are now looking for a qualified candidate for a PostDoc position for 2 years at the Division for Plant Biotechnology.
Duties:
The research of the PostDoc position will be focused on the regulation and distribution of plant storage products as oil, starch and sugar in sink tissues of plant and in addition work on basic genetic factors regulating starch composition and structure. The work will encompass molecular biological and biochemical methods on model plants and crops as well as genome editing of potato.
Qualifications:
Doctoral degree in natural sciences with specialization in plant science, bioscience or equivalent is a requirement. Applicants should be able to show experience and scientific skills of research on the metabolism of plant storage products such as starch or oil applying plant physiological / biochemical / molecular biological methods and transcriptome analysis for the study of plant sink tissues. Documented experience in tissue culture is a merit. Fluency in spoken and written English is a requirement. Good collaboration skills, initiative and creativity are important as the work is done in a research group and in close collaboration with other research staff within the department, at SLU and nationally and internationally.
As postdoctoral appointments are career-developing positions for junior researchers, we are primarily looking for candidates with a doctoral degree that is three years old at most.
