The PhD student position will be placed at the Department of Chemical and Biological Engineering, Division of Chemical Engineering. The research at the division covers a wide range of topics within chemical engineering both fundamental and more applied. Most projects involve experiments, modeling and simulations. The group has collaborated with the automotive industry for many years and the present project is focusing on improving the energy efficiency of trucks and passenger cars.
Thermoelectric (TE) energy conversion offers a potential solution for heat recuperation in which a temperature difference is converted into electricity. The project is done in collaboration with other groups that synthesize the elements, make the heat exchangers, build the prototypes and the test the whole system.
Job description
The position involves development of simulation tools for thermoelectric elements in automotive applications. You will work with commercial CFD software and simulate flow and heat transfer and produced electricity using you own developed subroutines for electrical properties of the thermoelectric elements. Validation of the models will be done in collaboration with industry.
The project is part of a larger project that involves several industrial partners; Volvo Technology AB, Höganäs AB, Termo-Gen AB, Alfa Laval AB, and academic partners; Competence Centre of Catalysis (KCK), Chalmers University of Technology, Department of Chemical Engineering and Technology, KTH - Royal Institute of Technology, Applied Surface Chemistry (TYK), Chalmers University of Technology
Required qualifications
A suitable background is a M.Sc. in Chemical Engineering, Mechanical Engineering, Physics, or an equivalent education. Experience in computational fluid mechanics is required.
You are expected to work relatively independently, have ability to plan and organize your work, and be able to communicate your scientific results, both orally and in writing, in English.
Application procedure
The application shall be written in English and include the following items:
1. An application of a maximum of one A4 page containing your specific qualifications for the position
