The positions are in collaboration with the Faculty of Engineering and Sustainable Development at University of Gävle (HiG) and the successful applicants will be based in Gävle.
KTH Computer Science and Communication is one of the most outstanding research and teaching environments in Information Technology in Sweden with activities at KTH and partly at Stockholm University. We conduct education and research in theoretical computer science, from theory building and analysis of mathematical models to algorithm construction, implementation and simulation. The applied computer science research and education dealing with computer vision, robotics, machine learning, computational biology, neuroinformatics and neural networks, including high performance computing, visualization and speech and music communication. It also conducts applied research and training in media technology, human-computer interaction, interaction design and sustainable development.

KTH School of Computer Science and Communication (CSC) announces 1-2 PhD positions in Personal care robots.

http://www.csc.kth.se/cvap) and the Centre for Autonomous Systems (CAS,
http://www.cas.kth.se) at CSC. This is a shared position with the University of Gävle, Gävle, Sweden and the employment will be at HiG.
We are looking for highly motivated PhD students to research in the area of Physical assistive robotic systems for elderly persons focussing on:
1. Upper body physical assistance for elderly persons
2. Lower body physical assistance for elderly persons
HiG has initiated research activities in the area of Ambient Assisted Living (AAL) which focus on the global ageing societal issues and how appropriate solutions can be developed to allow elderly persons to stay living independently in their own homes
KvalifikationerThe positions are available immediately and the PhD students will work with Professors Gurvinder Singh Virk and Danica Kragic. The students will be based in Gävle but will attend relevant courses and spend appropriate time at KTH in Stockholm as deemed necessary for the research activities to be carried out.
The term of the first appointment is one year. Appointments as a PhD student may be granted for a maximum of five years, studies 80% and 20% departmental duties, however not longer than the equivalent of full-time postgraduate studies for four years. For further information regarding employment and PhD studies, see Higher Education Ordinance, Chapter 5.
Doctoral students must be registered at KTH. The starting date is open for discussion, though ideally we would like the successful candidate to start as soon as possible. The salary is regulated by a local agreement for PhD students at HiG.

The The candidate must have a master's degree in an area such as Computer Science, Electrical Engineering, Mechanical Engineering, Informatics, Mathematics or Physics. Excellent written and spoken English and programming skills are required. Experience with robotics hardware and software, modelling and simulation, human biomechanics will be useful assets.
Applicants must be strongly motivated for doctoral studies, possess the ability to work independently and perform critical analysis as well as possess good levels of cooperative and communicative abilities.
