An immediate opening is available for a PhD student position at Luleå University of Technology for research in the field of high temperature tribology at the Division of Machine Elements. This research will be carried out in close collaboration with the Austrian Centre of Competence for Tribology (AC T) Research GmbH.
The Division of Machine Elements at LTU and the Austrian Centre of Competence for Tribology are amongst the leading tribology research groups internationally and are very well equipped with highly sophisticated tribology research facilities. The selected PhD student will enrol and work at Luleå University of Technology for his doctoral degree. He/She is also expected to work periodically at AC T depending on the needs of the research project.
Project description
This doctoral research project pertains to the tribological issues in forming applications at elevated temperatures and the research work will include: development of high temperature tribological tests; understanding of wear mechanisms encountered in tool-work piece interactions, development of wear mechanism maps and control of friction and wear at elevated temperatures through surface modification technologies.
Qualifications
Applicants must have excellent academic credentials and recently completed their M.Sc or equivalent degrees with specialisation in mechanical engineering, material science and technology or any other closely related subjects. Prior exposure to experimental techniques in tribology and surface analysis is desirable but not a must. The applicants must possess excellent skills in written and spoken English. Knowledge about German/Swedish language will be advantageous.
