The Department of Architecture and Civil Engineering has about 290 employees encompassing a broad theoretical knowledge base, from engineering science to the social sciences to the humanities, as well as design-based, artistic research. The combination of all of these perspectives allows for great interdisciplinary advancement in the field and a broader discussion of various aspects of sustainability. Together, we provide a comprehensive environment for architecture and civil engineering, well equipped to take on the common challenges of building a sustainable future. This PhD project investigates how reuse practices, i.e. how materials can be repurposed and recycled in construction projects, can be implemented in procurement processes. For this position applicants need knowledge of the AEC industry, organizational theory, and sustainable development. Being interested in teaching, having good networking and teamworking skills, and to be independent, creative and structured are vial traits for applicants.

Project description
The project focuses on improving procurement processes for reuse within the construction sector, aiming to promote sustainable and circular building practices. By developing strategies to incorporate criteria for reused materials in procurement, the project addresses challenges related to quality requirements, cost efficiency, and value creation. The project aims to provide novel insights in how to procure with reuse in mind, which in turn strenghtens the construction sector's environmental responsibility. The societal benefit lies in creating a more sustainable construction sector by lowering climate impact and encouraging business models that support both circularity and economic sustainability.
