Uppsala Monitoring Centre (UMC) is an independent foundation and a centre for international service and scientific research. Our priorities are the safety of patients and the safe and effective use of medicines in every part of the world. We meet these priorities by innovative research and development, and by providing data, reference, consultative and training resources to medicines regulatory agencies, health professionals, researchers and the pharmaceutical industry all over the world.

This is a temporary position May 1 2012 - April 30 2013.

Aim of position
Perform research on globally collected suspected adverse drug reaction reports in VigiBase and on longitudinal patient records.

Main Accountabilities
Research:
• Support or carry out research on specific clinical issues.
• Provide support to Uppsala Monitoring Centre's (UMC) methodological research with a clinical and/or pharmacological perspective.
• Participate in and contribute to international collaborative projects on the UMC's behalf.
• Lead and contribute to scientific publication of research results.
• Present research results internally and externally.
• As required, participate in other activities of the Research department, possibly including the supervision of student projects carried out on behalf of the UMC.

Main interfaces/collaborations:
Other members of the Research department, medical staff, the Pharmacovigilance Services department, and external collaborators.

Skill requirements

Shall:
Master's degree in pharmacy, pharmacology, medicine, or nursing.
Previous experience of analysis related to the safety of medicines.
Previous work using individual case safety reports.
Fluent written and oral English.

Should:
Worked with medicinal product and adverse drug reaction terminologies. Previous experience of data management.
Fluent written and oral Swedish.

Plus:
Previous experience of epidemiological studies.
Previous experience of near-patient environments such as a hospital or clinical trial.
