hela Sverige The Institute of Environmental Medicine (IMM) is a department at Karolinska Institutet and an interdisciplinary research institution within the broad field of environmental medicine. IMM conducts cutting edge research within the areas of environmental and occupational medicine, toxicology, physiology, epidemiology, and biostatistics with the aim to clarify how environmental and lifestyle factors affect our health and which role genes have. IMM also serves as a scientific advisor to public authorities within the area of environmental medicine and IMM scientists participate in national and international expert groups.
Unit of Occupational Medicine
The aim of our research is to identify and prevent chemical, physical, ergonomical and psychosocial health hazards in the work environment.
Our main activities include research, education and dissemination of information. The research groups at the unit are multiprofessional and include epidemiologists, statisticians, physicians, psychologists sociologists, physiotherapists, civil engineers, public health specialists and others. The unit takes part in education of medical students, occupational health nurses and physicians, and specialists in occupational and environmental medicine. The unit is closely associated with the Centre for Occupational and Environmental Medicine at Stockholm County Council. We are now looking for 1-2 postdoctoral researchers for two years with a flexible start October 2017 - Feb 2018.
Duties
The postdoctoral researcher is expected to conduct advanced epidemiologic research in occupational medicine based on large population registers. There are several ongoing research projects that could be part of these two positions, however, the main duties are focused around two newly initiated projects. The first is aimed at investigating risk factors of occupational injuries and advanced modelling of underreporing related to injury surveillance. The other project is a large cohort investigating factors related to early exit patterns from the labour market and makes use of a multidimensional job-exposure matrixes. Both projects involve researchers from other universities in Sweden and abroad. The postdoc is also expected to supervise PhD students, and to participate as teacher in epidemiology for master students.
Entry requirement
To be eligible the applicant must:
- Have a PhD in medical science in the area of epidemiology
- Have formal education in statistics
- Have experience in handling large databases
Applications are invited from talented and enthusiastic applicants with good knowledge in register-based epidemiology, preferably with experience in the area of occupational and environmental medicine, and with advanced knowledge in the field of epidemiology and biostatistics. Experience of supervision of masters students is meritorious, as is also experience with both the statistical software SAS and Stata. The applicant will need to both feel comfortable with working in teams and demonstrate good interpersonal skills and also be independent enough to formulate new hypotheses and critically examine the results.
A person is eligible for a position as Postdoctoral Researcher if he or she has obtained a PhD no more than seven years before the last date of employment as postdoc. The term can be extended under special circumstances.
