The continuous improvement of (system-) efficiency, -performance and -durability is very important. System simulation is an industry wide, well known technology to design, analyse and improve complex systems. As a growing company, we would like to increase our competence in that direction and review the possibilities of 0D / 1D-simulation to support our general design and development process as well as the analysis of our customers use cases and the adaption of our systems to customer needs.
We are therefor looking for two Master Thesis students to support us in the evaluation process of suitable simulation tools for 0D/1D modelling of fuel cell stacks and systems.
Main tasks of the Master Thesis 1: System simulation:
Develop, build and verify models for the complete Balance of Plant (Fuel (Anode) system, Air (Cathode) system, Coolant system, Electrical system). Implementation of a (simplified) controls strategy
Understand required component and measurement data for modelling and validation of the system
Evaluation of the potential to predict system behavior and performance in real operation modes, steady state and dynamic.
Comparison of the evaluated approaches acc. to defined criteria and recommendation
Main tasks of the Master Thesis 2: Stack simulation
Develop and build model of the fuel cell stack on different levels of detail (mapped, mathematical, physical models, stack / cell / channel resolution, ...)
Evaluate the functionality included in the chosen simulation tool to model complex processes in fuel cells
Definition of measurement program for evaluation
Understand usability for specification of the fuel cell components to meet specific KPI 's, e.g. durability, performance, efficiency
Investigate possibilities of enhancements and user-defined functionality
Comparison of the evaluated approaches acc. to defined criteria and recommendation
Required qualifications:
• Successful participation in a M.Sc. program or similar in chemical / process engineering, mechanical engineering, technical physics or similar; preferably all courses finished
• Self-driven, highly engaged and motivated personality, with a strong problem-solving approach
• Fluent in English, both oral and written
Additional desirable qualifications:
• Liquid cooled (PEM) fuel cell system and fuel cell stack know-how
• Electrochemical know-how
• Experience with system simulation tools (Amesim, Dymola, GT-Suite, Simulink, ...)
• Experience from an international and multi-language environment
• Practical experience from internships
• Swedish language skills
