The role Logistics Engineer-Optimisation and Data Management is located within the Operational transport function within the Inbound Logistics organisation (IBL) and will report to the Manager Transport Optimisation and Implementation. This function is critical to meet Volvo Cars' budget targets for IBL costs. The purpose of the Transport Optimisation and Implementation organisation is to identify development of cost, service, lead-time on a tactical (short -mid term) level. The function shall improve the current inbound transportation network as well as integrate new material part suppliers and carriers to create a related reliable logistics network. The function adapts the chosen transport mode to line speed changes. The team works in close cooperation with Inbound & Outbound Strategic Network Planning. The role is based in Gothenburg, Sweden.
Main responsibilities
• Continuous monitoring, analysis and optimisation of the utilisation, quality and cost of the inbound transportation network
• Network design and optimisation
• Tactical planning on a monthly basis
• Identify and run simulations to enable analysis on transportation network
• Develop improvements for existing transport concept and modes
• Identify new transportation concepts (LTL-tours, milk runs, hub-systems etc.)
• Ensure through constant improvements that area of responsibility meets the targets (budget, lead-time, frequency, quality and benchmark costs)
• Align all activities with internal Volvo Cars stake holders
• Interface with purchasing (direct material) and set up of new routes and concepts for new parts suppliers and volume changes
• Interface between central functions, local plants and contracted logistic parties
• Operational responsibility of maintaining necessary master data for TMS (Transportation Management System)
Required qualifications
• University degree, BSc or MSc.
• Minimum of 2 years work experience of transport network optimisation
• Good understanding of complete material flows and value streams
• Fluent in English
Personal qualities
• Excellent communication skills
• Strong quantitative and analytical ability
• Project experience preferred
