hela Sverige Are you an experienced organic chemist and would like to become a leader within Large Scale Manufacture and Process Safety in Gothenburg ? Are you excited by challenging, creative chemistry and state of the art equipment for large scale synthesis? Then you might be the one we are looking for! Join AstraZeneca and apply your expertise in a company that follows the science and turns ideas into life changing medicines.
Pharmaceutical Sciences at AstraZeneca deliver the therapies of the future through scientific leadership in drug delivery, design of synthetic routes, and manufacturing of Active Pharmaceutical Ingredients (API) across all the AstraZeneca therapy areas.
Early Chemical Development (ECD), one of the functions within Pharmaceutical Sciences, is a World-Class CMC department with responsibility for early phase Drug Substance.
The department's responsibilities span from early engagement with Discovery Chemistry groups to manufacture of Phase II Clinical material, and its key skill areas include Analytical Chemistry, Crystallisation, Isotope Chemistry, Large-Scale Laboratory (Kilo-Lab) Manufacturing, Process Chemistry, Process Engineering and Separation Science.
The C1team sits within ECD and delivers high-quality API batches in the range of 100-1000 g through development of great chemistry, innovative routes and creative solutions. The laboratory is the single company wide asset for large scale, non-GMP manufacturing of API for pre-clinical toxicology studies for all therapy areas.
We support the projects with the highest priority, most technically challenging chemistry in the AstraZeneca early phase portfolio and have access to top-quality labs and equipment, including e.g. reactors up to 100L, flow- and high-pressure reactors, and a wide range of modern analytical instruments.
We are now looking for a passionate chemist to lead our Large Scale Lab at our vibrant R&D site in Gothenburg, Sweden.
What You'll do
As a leader (Associate Principal Scienitist) for the Gothenburg Large Scale lab you will provide technical expertise to the team and Chemistry CoE and will act as point of reference for others within Pharmaceutical Sciences.
As a team, you will work closely with both medicinal chemists in drug development projects and process chemists to explore and develop safe, efficient and cost-effective synthesis routes including manufacture of drug candidates.
Key deliverables are:
* Detailed practical and theoretical knowledge of synthetic organic chemistry, process development and manufacture with strong emphasis on SHE aspects.
* Detailed understanding of the large scale facility and contribute to continuous improvement of the Gothenburg Scale-up labs.
* Support TL and department with expertise to secure realistic Capex investment plans to maintain and improve the performance of the manufacturing facility.
* Lead technically complex and accelerated early phase Chemical Development projects.
* Demonstrate expertise in synthetic chemistry, process development and manufacture, propose experimental strategies, troubleshoot problems and make a significant contribution to the practical delivery of high-quality API's.
* Work closely with CMC teams/TL to define realistic delivery time line and keep project team continuously updated
* Keeping up to date on current developments in the synthetic chemistry/Process Chemistry literature and publish novel work in peer reviewed journals.
Who you are
The person we are looking for has a strong background in Chemical Development with hands-on experience of laboratory process development and manufacture of small molecules. You are familiar with the newest technology in Chemical Development including Continuous Processing, Bio-catalysis and Process Analytical Technology.
You are also an excellent team player and a confident communicator with proven track record to influence across departments, cultures and geographies.
Essential for the role
* Experienced Ph.D. or equivalent in Organic Chemistry and Process Chemistry with a minimum of five years post graduate experience in organic synthesis.
* Documented experience and skills in Chemical Process Research and Development at a Pharmaceutical Company or Pharmaceutical Sciences CDMO.
* Experience of transfer of laboratory processes to Kilo-Lab manufacture.
* Excellent interpersonal skills and demonstrated ability to work in multi-functional project teams.
* Technical and/or engineering capabilities
* Curious and innovative mindset
* Able to identify, develop and apply new technologies and ways of working within large scale synthetic organic chemistry.
