The research activities within the Department of Biology and Environmental Science include the areas of aquatic ecology, cell and organism biology, evolutionary biology, microbiology, environmental science and environmental engineering as well as zoonotic ecology. For more information see: Lnu.se

Job tasks:
The position will involve assisting in research projects investigating microbial communities in the Baltic Sea, the deep biosphere, and in biotechnological extraction of metals from minerals. Laboratory work will involve extraction of nucleic acids, chemical analyses, and other general duties. In addition, fieldwork will involve periods at a drill site for investigating deep underground over the summer of 2020.

Qualifications:
Requirements for the position are a minimum of an undergraduate degree in molecular biology, microbiology, ecology, biotechnology, chemistry or similar subject. In addition, the applicant should be proficient in written and spoken English and have the ability to work independently as well as interact well in a research group.

Other assessment grounds that would place the candidate at an advantage include documented evidence of working within a microbiology laboratory as well as experience with DNA extractions, water chemistry, and fieldwork. Finally, having a category B driver's license would be beneficial. We attach great importance to personal suitability.

Terms of employment
Employment and scope: Short-term employment. The position will be 100 % for twelve months, with the possibility for extension up to a maximum of two years.
Duties to begin: The starting date is as soon as the position can be filled.
Placement city: The position is located in Kalmar, Sweden.
