The Department of Clinical Sciences is responsible for undergraduate education, research and research education in the subjects anesthesiology, clinical pathology, diagnostic imaging, epidemiology, laboratory animal science, medicine, reproduction, surgery and veterinary nursing. All species are covered in these subjects.

The Section for pig and poultry medicine is responsible for teaching, research and development in the respective areas. SLU is an approved training institute within ECPHM (European College of Porcine Health Management). The activities are based on herd visits within the framework of the teaching of veterinary students and research, in close collaboration with the National Veterinary Institute (SVA) and the advisory company Farm & Animal Health. The activities also include investigations on herd health problems and advisory services to stakeholders.

Duties:
An Internship is a flexible rotating clinical training / experience in porcine medicine of at least one (1) year beyond the professional degree. It provides practical experience in applying knowledge gained during formal professional education, and offers an opportunity for recent graduates to obtain additional training in clinical and basic sciences. An Internship is composed of a broad range of clinical assignments within the specialty.



An ECPHM Residency Programme is a training programme, including postgraduate education and clinical experience in science and practice, of at least three (3) years allowing a graduate veterinarian ("Resident") to acquire in-depth knowledge in Porcine Health Management and its supporting disciplines under the supervision and guidance of at least one (or in some circumstances more than one) certified Diplomate of the ECPHM. The minimal length of any Residency Programme is three (3) years.

Qualifications:
The applicant should be licensed to practice veterinary medicine in Europe and obtained the veterinary education from an EAEVE-approved establishment. Veterinarians without previous experience in porcine medicine should apply for the Internship position with possible extension to a Residency position. Veterinarians applying to follow a Residency Programme need to have completed an Internship programme or its equivalent (e.g. a period of at least one and a half (1.5) years in a specialised pig practice with evidence of significant postgraduate continuing education).



Excellent knowledge of English is important. Good knowledge of Swedish is advantageous. A driver license will be necessary. Great emphasis will be placed on personal qualities. It would also be important to place a date on the start. High motivation and enthusiasm is important, as well as the ability to take own initiatives, work independently, as well as good collaborative skills. Selection among the applicants will be based on a written application including verified curriculum vitae, written exam work or other written work referred to, personal references, and an interview where great emphasis will be put on personal qualities.
