hela Sverige At AstraZeneca, we work together across global boundaries to make an impact and find answers to challenges. We do this with the upmost integrity even in the most difficult situations because we are committed to doing the right thing. We continuously forge partnerships that help pursue world-class medicines in new ways, combining our people's exceptional skills with those of people from all over the globe.
Drug Safety and Metabolism is a function within Innovative Medicines and Early Development (IMED) Biotech Unit. The department of Safety and ADME Translational Sciences (SATS) characterises non-clinical toxicology, off-target pharmacology and ADME (absorption, distribution, metabolism and excretion) properties of compounds, and provides translation of these to predict and understand both safety and ADME findings in man.
The ADME transporter group is located in both Gothenburg and Cambridge. It is responsible for providing scientific and experimental expertise to influence drug design, candidate selection and support regulatory submission for transport and disposition sciences in evaluation of the absorption, distribution and excretion of all drugs in support of the AstraZeneca portfolio. The group inputs into defining and delivering key ADME related data and expertise, independent of modality (eg small molecule and oligonucleotides) along with inputting into key ADME strategies and capability builds.
We are recruiting an expert in membrane permeability, to make significant contributions to and support a number of IMED projects in understanding and predicting the impact of both active and passive membrane permeation as we aim to expand our target and chemistry space for new drug molecules. You will be expected challenge our current scientific understanding, to provide solutions to current issues and promote new ideas, developing these into workable opportunities. We are seeking an individual with scientific excellence, outstanding communication and people interaction skills.
You Will:
Be a recognised expert in a relevant scientific area, leading from the laboratory, making significant contributions to the practical delivery of project goals, whilst working collaboratively with colleagues across the AZ organisation.
* Directly impact the AZ discovery and development portfolio via specialist guidance and value adding experimental activities.
* Be responsible for design, conduct, interpretation and reporting of in vitro permeability and transport studies.
* Provide internally recognised disciplinary scientific leadership, mentors and provides laboratory supervision of less experienced scientists, training and development of scientific talents.
* Work as permeability and transporter expert in multi-disciplinary teams to deliver successful outcome.
* Provide externally recognised disciplinary scientific leadership by leading collaborations with key academic centres and by regularly presenting work through lectures and publications.
* Identify new technologies that can be successfully applied to drug projects that contribute to achievement of short and long-term business goals.
* Provide expert peer review of high-level documents, project milestone transitions and in submission development and defence in collaboration with colleagues.
*
Essential Criteria
* PhD or equivalent experience in cell entry mechanisms (both active and passive).
* Significant experience (with a track record of innovation) of an in vitro scientific discipline focussed around membrane permeation via passive and/or active processes. Application of this within either discovery and/or development projects.
* Understanding of the physicochemical properties and kinetics of molecules in relation to interactions with cell membranes and active processes.
* Ability to evaluate data and information from many sources to determine next steps.
* Strong publication track record in both peer review journals and via oral presentation.
* Ability to access science via external collaborations to deliver innovative solutions and significant value to drug discovery and development programs.
* Experience in working in multidisciplinary scientific teams to deliver in vitro technology/science solutions to drug projects.
Preferred experience & knowledge;
* Experience within Pharma Industry with significant contributions to the success of a number of discovery and /or development programs.
* Cell culture techniques, either immortalised or primary cells.
* In vitro ADME skills.
* Application of Bioanalytical techniques, e.g. LC-MSMS.
* Application of both metabolic and transporter science for drug disposition and drug-drug interactions in discovery and development project context.
* Track record in the application of enzyme/transporter kinetics
* Application of mathematical modelling techniques within either project setting or in the development of new technology.
* Supervising and mentoring others to ensure delivery of in vitro ADME technologies, to address specific project issues or to provide improvements to core technologies.
