Immuno-Oncology and Oncology Group Leader

Global Medicines Development (GMD) is the science engine room for our late stage development and the global organization of 5,500 people transforms science and strategy into clinical concepts that deliver new medicines to patients. This unique role will work with both the Oncology and the Immuno-Oncology units within GMD and be responsible for building an Oncology hub at AstraZeneca Gothenburg 's Sweden site. This team will act as an extension of the existing global Oncology and Immuno-Oncology development organizations (GMeds) and work closely with the current US and UK based teams (approximately 140 drug development professionals) to execute the TA strategy, in alignment with other functions within GMD.



Main Duties and Responsibilities:



This newly created leadership role offers the opportunity to work across the entire late stage AstraZeneca Oncology and Immuno-Oncology portfolio. The Immuno-Oncology and Oncology Site Lead will work with a high degree of autonomy under the direction of the Heads of the Immuno-Oncology and Oncology Department Global Development to build and lead a team of Oncology drug Development professionals at our Gothenburg, Sweden site. The site lead is expected to have significant line management and Oncology Development experience to be able to mentor and develop direct reports. The site lead may be asked to flex their leadership skills to provide direct strategic and multidisciplinary development leadership within a Program. The Gothenburg site lead will be a core member of the Immuno-Oncology and Oncology Leadership Teams with their staff deployed directly to Global Product Teams. The site lead will be accountable for the local implementation of functional strategy and be the primary point of contact for local management and personnel oversight.



The Gothenburg Site Lead will have responsibility for:

* Building a high performing local team with the right capabilities, expertise and skills to deliver on the Global Oncology Strategy
* Managing individual performance and providing mentoring and career development of clinical scientists and/or study physicians working under their leadership
* Providing development expertise into global development plans and submissions in the context of managing direct reports
* Participating in internal and external peer review of potential study/program design, ensuring clinical reports and other documents receive appropriate input from relevant stakeholders in the drug development and marketing process.
* Acting as a strategic partner for the Immuno-Oncology and Oncology Leadership Teams and leading and implementing key initiatives to improve the drug development process or ways of working (as requested)
* Remaining aware of current or emerging clinical practice developments and staying current with the evolving regulatory and reimbursement landscape
* May be invited to participate in or provide strategic development input in to in-licensing opportunities to support the Program and crisis management activities



Essential Requirements:

* Medical Degree and demonstrated record of achievement in Academia and Industry
* Multidisciplinary drug development expertise in Oncology with considerable experience across Phase I-III clinical research, especially global Phase III program development, trial conduct and interactions with major Global Health Authorities.
* Line management experience
* Experience working across projects and Departments in a highly matrixed environment
* Willingness to mentor and coach others
* Excellent problem solving, conflict resolution and critical thinking skills
* Excellent writing and communication skills and effective presentation skills and experience influencing and negotiating
* Global regulatory submission (NDA / BLA) experience



Desirable Requirements:

* Specialty training in Oncology, Immuno-Oncology, Tumor Immunology, or Immunotherapy is preferred
* Experience working across multiple organizations and geographic locations
* Previous leadership experience on global regulatory submissions (NDA / BLA)
