hela Sverige Are you a leader motivated by taking science as well as colleagues to new heights? Does your extensive scientific background enable you to create strategic plans and goals? Would you like to shape and build a Precision Medicine department that seeks to challenge and exceed current methodologies and approaches?
To further strengthen our expertise and capacity in each of our four strategic research areas we are currently recruiting world-class Leaders in the respiratory space. Do you want to act in an agile environment, with a scientific and patient-focused culture?
Precision Medicine Discovery is a key function within the RIA Target & Translational Sciences (TTS) department. Our mission is to understand disease mechanisms at the molecular level, identify the most effective target and the right patient population, and close the gap between bench science and bedside clinical practice.
Main Duties and Responsibilities
Precision Medicine Discovery (PMD) is instrumental in delivering human validation of our targets, including identifying Proof-of Mechanism (PoM) biomarkers, leading the development to drive patient selection and delivering translational clinical substantiation.
In this role, you are responsible for building mechanistic understanding of the target and disease, through creative application of experimental methods and technologies. This includes identifying and enabling PoM biomarkers as well as leading the pre-clinical target validation strategy from target identification. Furthermore, you will be responsible for identification and development of strategies to select the patients most likely to benefit from our medicines. You will also build the translational clinical validation package for RIA targets to better understand responding sub-populations, biomarkers and the biology of our drug targets. To accomplish this, you will cooperate with internal as well as external experts and teams.
You will take on a crucial leadership role that requires a strong scientific background as well as excellent people management and communication skills. Your success depends on fruitful and effective collaborations with other units and so will require outstanding team working and influencing skills and a proven track record of working in partnership to ensure scientific excellence and robust delivery to projects.
Accountabilities:
* Planning of work and long-term development of the department in close collaboration with your manager and other leaders
* Coach, mentor, motivate and inspire your team towards supporting projects with bioscience expertise
* Build and maintain a work environment in which scientific challenge and innovation is central
* Delivery of preclinical human validation of all portfolio targets (in relevant in vivo models, cell types, tissue) by experimentally demonstrating presence and functional implication of the target in relevant disease mechanisms, with mechanistic understanding of target and disease
* Delivery of expertise to projects by identifying and developing PoM biomarkers, Decision-making and other Exploratory Biomarkers, aligned with clinical development plan
* Precision medicine strategies and target clinical validation strategy to all RIA projects
* Identification of relevant patient subgroups based on biological drivers of segmentation
* Invention, development and implementation of key patient segmentation biomarker
* Develop target line of sight to clinic and, with TTS colleagues, extract knowledge from large omics-datasets and back-translation of AZ clinical studies
* Driving innovation and scientific excellence in the department through internal scientific development and external collaborations
* Propose, establish and manage external collaborations
* Ensure that the work produced by your department is performed with high quality in accordance with compliance processes, meeting company as well as biology standards
Essential Requirements
* PhD/Post Doc in Life Sciences or other relevant area, alternatively MD with research background
* Demonstrable leadership and delivery in precision medicine, biomarker discovery and application to drug discovery and development
* 10 years of work experience in pharmaceutical R&D
* Strong leadership capabilities with emphasis of people management and development
* Excellent written, oral, presentation and interpersonal skills
* Experience and deep understanding of biology, pharmacology, translational medicine and clinical sciences, with pre-eminence in at least one of these area
* A deep understanding of the drug development process, from lead identification through clinical development
* Ability to work productively in a matrix team environment
* Experience of career development of reporting scientists
* Experience in the Respiratory therapy area preferable
