This new role will fill our need to evolve and reimagine the way we communicate. You will explore possibilities for visual communication, collaborate with colleagues to develop ideas, and execute those ideas.
This role will include:
• creating visual assets for web and print
• collaborating with researchers, analysts and communicators to find opportunities for visual storytelling
• turning multi-dimensional data into attractive and accessible graphics
• clarifying and discussing early ideas, possibly with sketches or mockups
• turning concepts into engaging graphs, infographics, simple animations and more
• developing a design process that complements existing products and workflows
• working within branding guidelines and helping to improve and evolve them
• helping us find ways to communicate the best parts of our data (but not doing the data crunching itself)
We're looking for a designer with at least 4 years of relevant experience, ideally with a focus on the web. An education in graphic design is preferred.
You have an impressive design portfolio including real-world examples showing your work from the concept stage through to the final visual design.
You ask in-depth questions to understand the context and purpose of your work, both about the data being communicated as well as the audience being communicated to. You enjoy working with other people in an international and diverse environment. You are creative, curious and humble in your approach, and patient when working with colleagues who may be unfamiliar working with graphic designers.
Due to the international nature of SEI and our projects, you must be fluent and comfortable working in English. Swedish is not required.
Stockholm Environment Institute (SEI) is an independent, international research institute founded in 1989. Its mission is to support decision-making and induce change towards sustainable development around the world by providing integrative knowledge that bridges science and policy in the field of environment and development. SEI is ranked as the most influential environment think tank in the world in the Global Go To Think Tank Report 2016, compiled by the University of Pennsylvania's Think Tanks and Civil Societies Program.
SEI has about 230 employees working at research centers in six countries around the world. Our Headquarters and Stockholm Research Centre are co-located in Stockholm, Sweden with other centers in Estonia (SEI Tallinn); United Kingdom (SEI York and SEI Oxford); the United States (SEI Boston with sub-units in Seattle and locations in California); Bangkok, Thailand (SEI Asia Centre); and Nairobi, Kenya (SEI Africa Centre).
