Process Control Platform is a unit within ABB's division Industrial Automation that develop and deliver automation solutions from device to monitoring and control, ensuring our customers get the most out of their investment. Our digitalization solutions help improve plant and enterprise productivity, while reducing maintenance and energy costs. Deep domain knowledge enables us to truly understand and address the challenges and opportunities of Industrial Automation for process industries.
Our customers include e.g. oil and gas, chemistry and pharmaceuticals, pulp and paper, nuclear power and mining industries. Several applications in these industries require safety-certified control systems. This in turn requires us to pay high attention to the safety aspect in the development of our processes and technical solutions as well as how we validate our products. In other words, safety affects everything and everyone in the development organization. Today we develop safety-certified control systems up to level SIL 3.
We are now looking for a safety engineer with hardware competence to strengthen our safety team. Are you a potential candidate for this interesting and challenging role? Read below!
Your responsibilities:
Playing a central role in our safety development projects and promoting functional safety culture through the whole R&D organization.
Acting as an expert in the applicable safety standards and guiding how the standards are to be applied in the daily development processes.
Driving continuous improvement by identifying safety-critical functions.
Empowering colleagues to understand obligations, liability and how to fulfill their roles according to safety instructions and standards.
Facilitating safety assessments, ensuring that processes and corrective actions are implemented and that appropriate safety equipment and tools are used.
Close interaction with external certification institute that provides the company certificates for new product releases.
Your background
A Bachelor or Master of Science in embedded/hardware development.
Previous experience from embedded hardware development since you will participate in operational audit work of our development as well as take decisions based on technical aspects.
Genuine interest in functional safety development and certification of safety-rated embedded systems from e.g. process, aerospace or automotive industry.
Experience in the safety standard IEC61508, as well as knowledge of different methods of risk analysis like FMEA, FMEDA and HAZOP is a big advantage.
You are structured, result-oriented, analytical and capable of working efficiently with parallel activities.
You have a strong sense of personal drive and the ability to make decisions.
You have a positive and problem-solving attitude with a will to propose and implement solutions.
You enjoy developing sustainable relations with co-workers - all to contribute to our future success.
Fluency in English is a must and as the position is in Västerås, knowledge in Swedish is preferred.
