The Software group within the Technical Division provides MAX IV with a wide range of software solutions to support the scientific experiments being performed.

MAX IV is looking for a frontend web developer who will boost research capabilities for our scientists by pushing our interfaces to the cutting edge.
As a professional, you will bridge science and state of the art software development. Having the advantage of working together with our clients gives us the insight and opportunity to increase our success in delivering the best solutions which in turn enables them to deliver the best scientific results.
You will work on creating innovative user interfaces for the experiments, integrating data management workflows, and supporting critical tools for user and operations management.

Together with your colleagues in the Technical Division you will be responsible for keeping the laboratory in a state of excellent operations while enabling future excellence through innovation.
In close contact with the scientists, you will have the opportunity to solve problems with novel approaches, become involved in writing an interesting paper and present your work at international conferences.

Being part of the Software group also means participating in different international collaboration projects for software frameworks for controls, data acquisition and data management, across Scandinavian and European countries.

Your main work tasks will be:

- Developing software projects related to the experiments, the management of data and operation support tools at MAX IV.
- Supporting the MAX IV staff in using the MAX IV software tools.
- Improving the "User eXperience" to allow troubleshooting and finding simple user-friendly solutions to complex problems.
- Participating in the team planning and resource estimation of the Software group as well as improving the shared group infrastructure.

To be successful in this role you need to have the following qualifications:

- A bachelor's degree in computer science or equivalent
- Professional experience with web frameworks such as Angular and React
- Professional frontend developer experience with JavaScript, HTTP, CSS, and API development
- An understanding of common software architectures: Functional, OOP, Reactive etc
- Experience working with inhouse tools development
- The ability to work with ease in a Linux operating system environment
- Strong communication skills, fluent in English

Experience in any of these are seen as merits:

- Python 3
- PostgreSQL, MongoDB, Grafana, Drupal, Kubernetes
- Agile team environment: familiar with pair programming, reviews, unit tests, continuous integration, and continuous delivery.
- Knowledge of code lifecycle management: git, Conda, packaging, Ansible, etc
- Software development for scientific applications
- Control System development especially in Tango and Sardana
- An understanding of performance and network protocols
- Other programming languages: C++, Go, Rust, PHP ...

More merit will be given to a candidate that:

- Shows evidence of participating in an open-source community collaboration.
- Has experience of working in an international research-oriented environment.

MAX IV is a Swedish national large-scale research laboratory hosted by Lund University. It provides scientists from Sweden as well as internationally, with state-of-the-art instrumentation for research in areas such as engineering, physics, structural biology, chemistry and nanotechnology. It will receive up to 2 000 scientists annually, conducting ground-breaking experiments in materials and life sciences using the brilliant X-ray light.

The ICT teams at MAX IV are placed under the Technical Division and deliver solutions to the whole MAX IV organisation in the areas of electronics, software, infrastructure and scientific data. This is a dynamic and highly challenging environment and requires close collaboration with the beamline staff in order to understand the needs and be effective in forming solutions. We are around 50 people in total who work in 4 domains in a well-organised and agile way. We hold values of lean management, knowledge spread, user autonomy, continuous improvement and flexibility as guiding principles for our work.
