We are ramping up at the Design department at Volvo Cars. You may be senior in your current designer role but could also be a recent graduate from a well-recognized design university with some experience from the automotive industry looking to join us for our exciting future ahead. We are now looking for a new colleague to fill the position Exterior Senior Expert Light Designer to the Volvo Cars Design Team.
What you will do
The person we are looking for must have expert experience in this field. You must have in-depth knowledge of design processes and what it takes to bring a car from sketch to reality and must utilize all design skill sets to create quality proposals of your own as well as guiding and mentoring others in parallel. A proactive personality is required to effectively lead single or multiple design programs.
You will propose innovative and world class design solutions which push the future development of both the Volvo & Polestar Brands. Moreover, you will create compelling and appropriate design proposals for concept and production car programs in the form of sketches, renderings and 3D digital models. In this role, you collaborate cross functionally with all team disciplines and support program timing by delivering appropriate design proposals with speed and efficiency.
Your main responsibilities will be to:
• Provide high quality designs through both 2D and 3D mediums
• Support Digital modellers with clear visual and verbal direction in the creation of digital models, physical models and CG renderings
• Work on a broad range of advanced design and production programs
• Present and communicate design proposals using multiple media
• Work with other designers to help bring their ideations to life in 3D
• Collaborate with studio engineering on design solutions that can be brought to production
Qualifications:
• Bachelor or Master Degree in Design in transportation / automotive design
• Express a high level of creativity through visual communication skills including: manual sketching, digital sketching, digital rendering, 3D Tape drawing and surface knowledge
• Expert skills in Alias Automotive Studio, VRed, VR, Photoshop, PPT and other visual medias
• Ability to develop and maintain collaborative relationships with peers and colleagues across the organization, as well as internal teams
• Expert knowledge of design quality, themes, proportions and surface execution
• Expert level or storytelling, organization skills and presentation skills both verbally and in graphic form
• More than 8 years' experience in the field of automotive design
• Fluent English communication skills
• Periodic travel may be required, including the potential for international travel for full time employees
• Candidates must be legally authorized to work in Sweden. Verification of employment eligibility will be required at the time of hire.
