hela Sverige The School of Humanities, Education and Social Sciences, at Örebro University, Sweden, is currently offering research study opportunities on the programme Language Studies with orientation towards English Studies. For the successful candidate, the programme will conclude with the award of the Degree of Doctor. The start date of the programme is the 1st of September 2017.
Language Studies at Örebro University explores language practices from humanistic, cultural and historical perspectives. The subject has four main orientations - English, Swedish language, rhetoric and literature. Themes of study include general aspects of relevance to language communities locally and globally, as well as aspects related to communication in speaking and writing. The research in English at Örebro University is particularly strong in the field of sociolinguistics, with emphasis on the theme "language and power". For example, there is ongoing research on language attitudes, linguistic stereotyping and the role of English as a global language of power. The department also conducts applied research in the field of language teaching and learning, for example focusing on the role of English in post-colonial educational contexts. We welcome applications with relevance to any of the above fields, but also applications relating to other aspects of speech communities where English plays an important role.
