Research group

The research group explores how genes and environments influence ADHD across the life span. We also study the developmental consequences of ADHD and try to identify the benefits and risks associated with ADHD treatment interventions.

The research group use large ADHD cohorts identified from national health registers, the Swedish twin register and clinical cohorts. These datasets contains valid diagnoses of ADHD, prospective measures of environmental risks, high throughput genotyping, longitudinal information on prescribed ADHD medications and assessments of serious medical (cardiovascular, neurological, and psychiatric problems) and functional outcomes.

The doctoral education project and the duties of the student

Under supervision, the PhD student will be responsible for literature review, data analysis, result interpretation, scientific article writing and data presentation. The overarching objective of this project is to identify the long-term educational, occupational and behavioral outcomes of individuals with ADHD both at the individual and societal level. More specifically, the objectives are:

1. To explore how genetic and environmental risk factors contribute to the association between ADHD and school achievement.

2. To study the effect of ADHD medications on school achievement.

3. To study if occupational trajectories in individuals with ADHD depends on school achievement.

4. To conduct a cost-benefit analysis of ADHD medication using criminality in adolescence and adulthood as an outcome.

Your supervisors have a broad expertise in ADHD epidemiology.
