Diploma worker to join us at Siemens Industrial Turbomachinery AB, in Finspång
Within Siemens Power & Gas, we have a group, partly situated in Finspång, Sweden, which is responsible for development of common technical tools. The group has a responsibility for a wide variety of different calculation tools. One of these tools is called 2ndFlow, and is used for calculation of:
• Flow networks describing the cooling, purge and leakage flows outside the main flow path
• Thermal solver for calculation of metal temperatures of stators and rotors
• Linear elastic MI solver for calculation of displacements, gaps and clearances during engine transients
Your tasks:
• You will help us to further develop the MI part of 2ndFlow further in the project described below
Your profile:
• You have good knowledge in solid mechanics and hade experience / interest in programming.
Time
• Estimated start is 1 march 2018 but some flexibility is possible
• The duration of the work is approximately 20 weeks full time work
Project description
Implementation of Nonlinear Boundary Conditions in 2ndFlow
For prediction of clearances in gas turbines, not only the correct modeling of thermal boundary conditions as temperatures and heat transfer coefficients is crucial, but also the accurate representation of the part's individual fixation and degree of freedom.
Basic structural boundary conditions as point tying, which forces a slave node to move in the same way as the master node without hindering rotational movement, and sliding joints which allow two parts to slide on each other surfaces as well as fixed/open joints, are the most often applied boundary conditions within a whole engine model for clearance calculation.
Overlap and Nonlinear Boundary Type Requests for 2ndFlow
For modeling of a shrink fit or the pretensioning of a bolt based on a known elongation, an overlap must be definable in the joint definition setup. This overlap shall act as an invisible shim which has been introduced between the two parts if a positive value is entered and respectively act as shrink fit if a negative value is set.
Nevertheless, due to the fact that sliding joints can also transfer pull forces which hinders parts from (partly or fully) detaching, an additional so-called nonlinear joint is requested to be implemented in 2ndFlow. A nonlinear joint has to represent the correct forces of the two parts in contact, individually for each node. If the forces tend to zero and the parts are developing a gap, either over the full joint area or only partly, a non-linear joint has to properly represent the movement. Consequently, a nonlinear joint acts similar to a sliding joint where it is in contact and as an open joint where the contact is lost.
