The Programme Directorate at the European Spallation Source (ESS) in Lund, Sweden, invites applications for a Design Engineer Cryogenics.
Description of directorate/division
The Design Division provides the skills, tools and the resources for the design engineering work at ESS and its collaboration. The Design Office works cross functional through the organisation and is a service to the different projects.

The Design Division consists of both Product Data Management, CAD Management and support personnel as well as the designers needed for the process of designing, building and maintaining the ESS site and machine.
Description of main responsibilities
The successful candidate will be placed in the ESS Design Division and will assist the ESS cryomodule team in designing the prototype, pre-series and series versions of the elliptical and spoke cavities' cryomodules.
The main tasks are to follow the work of the external design team, to make sure the cryomodule design fulfills ESS' design standards and to ensure proper integration of the cryomodules into the ESS accelerator model.
The successful candidate will assure the complete transfer of ownership of the cryomodule design from the external designers to the ESS core team by being a integral part of the design effort. 

Qualifications

• A technical or scientific degree in an appropriate field.
• Between 2 and 5 years experience in mechanical design, thermo-mechanical design and cryogenics. Expertise in using 3D CAD software, preferably CATIA.
• Experience with (circular or straight) superconducting accelerators is desirable, but not a prerequisite.
• Demonstrated ability to work with others and to communicate efficiently.
• Great care and accuracy are required. 
• Experience of working in an international environment is essential.
• Excellent oral and written English skills are a prerequisite; knowledge of other European languages would be an advantage. What ESS can offer

Your work place will be situated in Lund, Sweden.Travel days at approx. 30 days/year

The European Spallation Source ESS AB will design, build and operate a multi-disciplinary, large-scale research infrastructure based on the world's most powerful neutron source. ESS will provide scientists with unique and powerful neutron scattering instruments for the study of a large range of materials - from polymers and pharmaceuticals to membranes and molecules. The ESS project is partnered by 17 European countries, and hosted by Sweden and Denmark. The ESS will be built in Lund, Sweden, by a collaboration of European scientists and engineers. ESS is planned to produce the first neutrons by 2019. When the facility is in full operation 2025, ESS has around 450 employees.
