At Purchasing Department at Volvo Car Group, you are part of a global team with the mission to develop and maintain a world-class supplier base. The Cost Estimating Department is a strategic function within Purchasing, which consists of 39 persons with extensive experience and skills within all different types of components (plastic, metal and electronics) and production methods used in parts produced for Volvo cars. The department uses calculation software to calculate cost for both Parts and Tools. Cost Estimating serves to provide the organization with expert competence regarding cost analysis.
The Cost Estimating Department is now searching for a Cost Engineer for EDS Wiring system to the Electrical team. The team consists of 7 persons that are working on fast changing exciting technology areas, covering Electrical Distribution System, Advanced Safety, Autonomous Drive, Hybrid- and Electrical cars, Displays, Audio, Infotainment and Telematics. These areas are highly dynamic areas where we work tightly with the R&D department and suppliers as they develop customized solutions for our vehicles. Estimating cost for EDS parts is done with both an engineering and business mind-set, i.e. by analysing actual hardware/technical documents and also tight cooperation with R&D-department to understand what requirements are driving cost. The role gives possibility to deep-dive into new technology and the electronics in vehicles are in a dynamic phase, where new functions are designed into future cars.
The position includes some international travelling to suppliers' manufacturing sites to review the production processes from a cost perspective as well as Volvos offices and plants in different locations.
Main responsibilities
* Strive to make sure that Volvo Car Group always gets value for money when purchasing parts, by Estimating right cost level (Bill of Material and Production process) and delivering negotiation arguments to Buyer
* Support the buyer in negotiations with suppliers
* Support engineering with cost estimates to improve design decisions with cost perspective
Required qualifications
* Technical university degree or relevant working experience
* At least 5-10 years of engineering experience of EDS or EDS-components design/engineering and/or Purchase and/or Sales
* Fluent in English, both spoken and written
* Knowledge from EDS-manufacturing industry is an advantage
* Experience in cost calculations is meritorious
