Would you like to join us in developing features that allow players to experience exploration in a fantastic open-world environment, wherever they are? Avalanche Studios Group and its creative self-publishing division, Expansive Worlds are looking for a Character Artist to bring amazing and authentic characters and creatures into our worlds. The role can be based out of the beautiful cities of Malmö or Stockholm in Sweden and we offer a hybrid working setup.
More about the role
At Expansive Worlds, we are looking for a Character Artist to bring experience and skills to develop realistic and detailed real-world creatures and human characters into our games. Every single detail matters to us - not only in our games, but also in how we work. We work in cross-functional teams with a high focus on collaboration, adaptability and continuous improvement. Your close collaborators would include animators, technical artists, programmers and designers. A high level of initiative is needed, and it is rewarded with autonomy and the invitation to actively influence how features are developed and what the end result will look like.
What you'll do:
Design characters from concept to final output, ready to be rigged and animated
Work with various tools throughout the pipeline, such as Maya, Zbrush, Substance Painter, Blender and Photoshop
Conduct research on real-world creatures and characters to ensure a high level of detail and authenticity in our work
Improve the character asset pipelines over time to enable your team to work smarter
Collaborate with stakeholders from many different areas of expertise
Who you are:
You have excellent skills in Maya, Photoshop, Substance Painter and Z-brush or equivalent
You have a strong portfolio showcasing your proficiency in character design, modeling, and texturing, with a focus on animal characters
You have a high level of initiative, and you combine research with significant experience to solve complex intersecting aspects of the game
You care about the people around you, you are sincere and understand how to take, solicit and provide feedback in a way that works with people from different backgrounds
You communicate effectively to your team members as to the state of development; raise concerns when applicable
You are a problem solver with the ability to work independently or involve needed stakeholders where needed to reach the goal
The nitty-gritty
This is a full-time position at our Malmö location, and we offer flexible work arrangements where you can spend part of your time remotely. We take individual competence growth seriously, so we offer opportunities to continuously increase your potential.
Our values
At Avalanche Studios Group, we create worlds beyond limits. But that's not exclusive to our games, so we're committed to developing a diverse and inclusive workplace. All Avalanchers have a shared responsibility to create an open work environment where everyone is treated equally and respectfully. Being part of our world is not contingent on your heritage, your gender, or sexual orientation. It's all about your passion and creativity.
The Malmö location
You'll find us in a standout building from 1958, just a stone's throw from the Central Station. Within these walls, the American dream was leveraged to sell muscle cars more than half a century ago. Today, the location balances Avalanche Studios Group's industrial, high-octane heritage with a bright and homey vibe featuring resident dogs and patio-grown chilies.
How to apply
To apply for this position, please register below and provide your CV in English and a portfolio demonstrating all aspects of your skills.
