Propulsion Strategy and Innovation has a leading role for the Propulsion unit deliveries in concept phase and technology development. The main task for the unit is to lead, analyse and develop concepts and system solutions for propulsion including hybrid systems in the next generation of Volvo Car vehicles. The group, Propulsion System CAE, is responsible for analysing concepts and system solutions for propulsion in Volvo Car Group vehicles. The group is working with CAE simulations for the properties driveability, performance, emissions and powertrain energy consumption. These attributes are simulated using commercial tools in combination with in-house developed models and routines.
As CAE Petrol Engine Engineer you will work with modelling, concept evaluation, component sizing of petrol engines including EATS system (EATS = Exhaust After Treatment System) in hybrid powertrains. The work will be in close cooperation with technical specialists at engine department, EATS department and other CAE engineers at our group. You will have an important part in the early stages of projects actively contributing to creating robust and environmental friendly engine concepts for the future.
Main responsibilities
* Develop models and control functions for petrol engines
* Incorporate exhaust after treatment models to be able to simulate tail pipe emissions
* Support concept work with simulation and calculations for sizing of EATS components in combination with hybridization of the drivetrains
* Method development for modelling and optimization of EATS-system in combination with hybridization of the drivetrains
Required qualifications
* MSc degree in Chemistry, Applied Physics, Mechanical Engineering or equivalent. PhD degree is considered meritorious
* 5+ years of relevant work experience, with good knowledge of the physics of petrol engines and their exhaust after treatment as well as model development and model calibration
* Experience of development of engine controls- or diagnostic-systems in the automotive industry is meritorious
* Experience from Matlab/Simulink
* Fluent in English, written and spoken
