CAE Engineer Safety

The section Safety Analysis is a part of Volvo Cars Safety Centre, which drives the development of the Volvo core value - Safety. We are responsible to evaluate the crash performance in our current and future cars and the section is divided into three groups; Side impact and Pedestrian, Rear impact and External customers testing and Frontal impact. It is also within our responsibility to cover the areas security, passive and active safety and we have state-of-the-art facilities and equipment, e.g. our unique test laboratory. Within the centre there are functions for both strategic safety development and requirements, traffic accident research and safety analysis, both physical testing and CAE. The development is performed in close collaboration with both our internal design departments and external suppliers in a dynamic and international environment.

As CAE Engineer Safety, a temporary position at Volvo Cars, you will perform virtual simulations of vehicle crash performance. Based on the result you will do analysis of occupant protection and structural performance. Different technical solutions are evaluated to secure that the vehicles meet our high safety standards. You will be responsible for virtual simulations within one of our ongoing projects and you will have regular contact with engineers from physical testing and the product development departments.

Main responsibilities
• Create and develop virtual simulation models
• Perform simulations and analysis based on the results
• Present results to project and construction departments
• Participate in development of technical solutions
• Participate in cross-functional development teams

Required qualifications
• MSc in Mechanical Engineering or equivalent education within relevant program
• Experience of CAE-tools such as LS-Dyna or Ansa
• Fluent in English (written and spoken)
• Meritorious is experience from Volvo Cars or other OEMs within the CAE safety area

Personal qualities
• Strong analytical skills and interest in affecting the product using CAE
• Driven and a self-starter
• Strong communication skills as well as a positive mindset
• Team player
