As a Business Development Manager (BDM) at the department CVMD, Scientific Partnering and Alliances (SP&A), you will be a key member of a team which is responsible for establishing the business case for and negotiating CVMD in- and out- licensing, consortia, joint venture, collaboration and other agreements for the AstraZeneca early clinical development and pre-clinical development organisation. The SP&A team plays a key role in presenting business cases to internal and external stakeholders and ensuring that value is generated for the organisation through transacting on cases selected by Senior Management.

Main Duties and Responsibilities
As a junior member of the team, you will have primarily a supportive role in developing the business case, building term sheets and negotiating major complex transactions and will be expected to be able to lead minor routine transactions, with assistance from other functions and the Business Development Director (BD Director), as per need. As the BDM, you will also be a key ambassador for AstraZeneca in its external interactions as well as helping senior members of SP&A team and Innovative Medicines and Early Development (IMED) to identify future partners, maintain relationships with current and potential future partners and ensure that AstraZeneca is viewed as the partner of choice for best in class and/or first in class licensing opportunities, innovative collaborative opportunities or externalisation projects.

Transactional Leadership
Under the direction and with the support of the BD Director, evaluate and advise internal stakeholders on the most appropriate type of agreement to cover specific collaborative and partnering opportunities

Under the direction and with the support of the BD Director and cross-functional deal teams (IP, legal, finance, R&D) negotiate and evaluate the terms and complete agreements

Business Case Construction and Presentation Leadership
Complex, major deals: Under direction and with the support of the BD Director, establish the business case for potential major collaboration opportunities (primarily alliances/ collaborations, and licensing/ acquisition deals) with the aim to ensure that the opportunities will generate value for the business and prospective partner and that this value can be clearly communicated to internal and external stakeholders:

Critically interpreting analysing and synthesing non-confidential and confidential data gathered from third parties, desk sources and internal AZ knowledge to build credible and succinct business cases allowing Senior Management to make decisions.

Working with the international, multifunctional teams, where appropriate, for the technical, commercial and corporate evaluation of new opportunities. Such teams may include senior scientific, technical and commercial representatives from across the AZ business landscape

Essential Requirements

Degree in a relevant scientific discipline or alternatively significant relevant experience and knowledge of cardiovascular & metabolic disease from working in the life science sector.
Postgraduate pharmaceutical, biotech industry or technology transfer office experience.
Basic understanding of key principles of contracts, deal structures; intellectual property, value drivers and valuation principles of relevance for licensing, collaboration and related transactions.
Strong analytical skills and ability to effectively understand and act on complex information under high time pressure situations.
Strong communication and team player skills.
Professionalism, integrity, and gravitas.
Project management experience.

Desirable Requirements
Second degree in a relevant scientific or business discipline.
