The department of SPBD RI is seeking a Business Development Director
The Area
SPBD is a global integrated cross-business organisation providing expert capability in identifying, evaluating and securing licensing, acquisitions, divestment, alliance opportunities and research collaborations. The present position is aligned with the RI IMed.
The Role
The nature of business development work is varied, fast moving and unpredictable and all members of the SPBD team are expected to be flexible and to be able to adapt to work on different types and aspects of deals. A positive attitude to the changing needs of the business, the IMeds and the regional business strategy is core requirement of every role in SPBD. As a Business Development Director you will be reporting to the VP of SPBD of the department.
Accountabilities
Working with the R&I iMed ensure that targeted opportunities are identified, evaluated and, as appropriate, presented to the business effectively and efficiently. These may be in/out licensing, divestment, acquisition or alliance opportunities.
Establish external and internal networks to ensure early identification and capture of relevant opportunities. Attend relevant conferences to enable discussions with appropriate third parties.
Contribute to the development of externalisation strategy by contributing to iMed business plans and disease area cluster discussions.
Close collaboration with and proactive working with IMED is a critical aspect of this role.
Interpret and synthesise data gathered from 3rd parties, desk sources and internal AZ knowledge in building a business proposition.
Take responsibility to filter opportunities and to terminate evaluations that do not meet business requirements or standards.
Establish and lead international, multifunctional teams for the technical, commercial and corporate evaluation of opportunities and their execution. Such teams will include senior scientific, technical, Finance, Legal, IP and SET colleagues.
Ensure that the evaluations are thorough and objective, with clear opportunity and risk assessment
Manage the relationship with the potential partner in a timely and professional manner; ensure that AZ remains competitive in 3rd party deal process.
Prepare and present, deal propositions to IMED and relevant senior governance bodies.
Ensure, as far as is reasonable, that AZ is regarded as partner of choice by third parties.
Lead the deal negotiation and closure.
Ensure post deal activities are fully completed
Prepare activity and achievement reports for senior management and feed into SET updates as appropriate.
