Job assignment

Applicants are invited to apply for a position as head of the bioinformatics unit within the strategic research area MultiPark.

MultiPark is a strategic research area in neurodegenerative diseases at Lund University and University of Gothenburg which is funded by the Swedish Government. The research spans from experimental research to clinical and health science research, with a specific focus on Parkinson's and Alzheimer's diseases. The overarching goal is to create new and innovative strategies for improved and novel treatments, disease modifications and eventually cures for the neurodegenerative diseases. An important part is a dynamic structure for the advancement of research, infrastructure, innovation and education in the field. In the end, the research strive to improve the functioning, health and quality of life of people living and ageing with these diseases.

The unit is currently being established and as head of the unit the applicant is expected to establish routines and coordinate bioinformatics activities within MultiPark in order to optimize resources and support researchers at MultiPark with bioinformatics expertise. The activities include multiple tasks such as research, management and coordination of projects. The applicant is expected to have excellent communication skills, a willingness to interact with other researchers and to contribute to the common goals of MultiPark.

The position will be imbedded into the already existing bioinformatical core at the Lund Stem Cell Centre and synergy between these two units is expected Analyses will include RNA-sequencing, ChIP-seq, exome-sequencing, proteomics and single-cell genomics. An important part of the work will include quality control, processing and analysing of such data sets. We expect applicants to have some experience of, and an interest in, implementing and developing standardized and novel processes for dealing with large data sets. Thus, the candidate is expected to independently follow the development, work on improving existing pipelines and present alternative solutions on how to best utilize available data and resources. '

The MultiPark facility will provide the following services:

• Initial advice and guidance on which experimental approach should be used for a particular bioinformatical question

• Provide maintenance and server support of MultiPark NGS data - Assist/perform bioinformatical support for NGS experiments.

• Provide training for interested users including both seminars and courses

Qualifications

We are looking for bioinformatician with a PhD-degree in bioinformatics or a related life science degree and be able to demonstrate excellent computational skills.

The following expertise are required:

• Experience of working in Unix, Linux and Windows environments

• Extensive knowledge of at least one relevant programming language, e.g. R

• Experience of working with next generation sequencing

• Experience with web-based bioinformatics tools and public domain biological databases - Documented ability to collaborate at multiple levels

• Excellent skills in writing/communicating in English

Terms of employment:

Permanent position, six months probationary employment may be applied.
