We are looking for a knowledgeable and motivated Associate Principal Scientist to join our Preclinical In Vivo Models team at one of our strategic R&D sites in Gothenburg, Sweden.
Combine your scientific drive with your strategic and tactical skills in this exciting Associate Principal Scientist position, where you will play an important part in our growing Translational Genomics department. We are working in the broader Discovery Biology organisation with a common goal to innovate at the interface of science and technology. This to discover new targets, to create reagents, assays and disease models to discover new medicines, and to develop cell and gene therapies.

What you'll do:
You are a specialist in the area of molecular and cell biology, experienced in a variety of cloning techniques used for the generation of complex DNA constructs and their application in the development of advanced transgenic models. You will devise, champion and develop scientific areas aligned with therapeutic area project needs and be an authority in the area of molecular and cell biology and precise genome editing using both established and the latest techniques to lead projects from a lab-based perspective and to make significant contributions to the practical delivery of AstraZeneca project goals across a range of therapeutic areas.
You will coach and support junior scientists by advising and challenging them and by providing expert advice to aid interpretation of complex data. Provide disciplinary scientific leadership and represent the Transgenic Model group at internal interdisciplinary meetings in addition to external meetings and to publish novel science in high impact journals. As well as, propose experimental strategies, troubleshoot problems and make significant contributions to the practical delivery of projects in compliance with AstraZeneca corporate responsibility policies and relevant safety standards.
Essential for the role:
To be successful in this role you need molecular biology expertise with extensive DNA cloning experience in a drug discovery environment. Along with this you have an open and innovative attitude and the ability to interact and communicate efficiently across interfaces of global and scientific functions and fields. Experience of leading projects and mentoring more junior scientists is also essential. As well as;
* Ph.D. degree or corresponding experience in a relevant scientific field.
* Experience of working with Bacterial Homologous Recombination, Gibson assembly and Gateway cloning
* Practiced working experience of with pluripotent stem cell culture.
* Experienced in confirmation assays of genetic manipulation.
* Working knowledge of the latest precise genome engineering tools such as CRISPR.
* Great skills to devise, initiate and contribute to the implementation of novel innovative tools for the generation of in vivo models.
* Demonstrated experience in the generation of scientific presentations and manuscripts for publication.
