Stora Enso are now looking for an Area Manager to join them in their committed work to create a better future for coming generations. As Area Manager at Biomaterial Innovation Unit you will support and drive development of the Lignode projects towards commercial solution.

Biomaterials Innovation team acts as a center of excellence in next generation of sustainable batteries. To develop and commercialize innovative carbon-based materials, derived from renewable biogenic resources, for sustainable batteries is the area we are very passionate about. The target is to revolutionize battery technology in order to sustainably cover the needs for energy storage in an electrified future.
The Biomaterials Innovation organization focuses on identifying business opportunities and developing new solutions in markets for renewable and bio-based materials, with a focus on carbon-based anode materials for Li-ion and Na-ion batteries.
YOU WILL
As Area Manager, your responsibility will be to support and drive development of the Lignode projects towards commercial solution in feasibility phase, and lead part of the projects in execution phase.
You will be part of the Lignode Team and together with project owner, plan and manage studies for Innovation projects.
You will play an important role and act as technical expert in implementation of projects, driving ideas and solutions and support development of new battery materials from a customer and application point of view.
Part of a multi-functional team you will aim for achieving project goals as a project leader as well as a project member.
Other responsibilities in the role:
• Leading agreed project area in Stora Enso Lignode projects.
• Planning, engineering and implementation of projects. Ensure that objectives of the own project area across all disciplines are achieved in accordance with agreed targets and project guidelines.
• Advising in investment decisions, selecting appropriate technology and systems and arrangements of approved investment to meet Stora Enso's Financial and sustainability objectives.
• Support Business Development with expert technical know-how on batteries and battery materials during customer interactions.
• Take responsibility for scientific and technological progress in projects; prepare material required and report back on progress.
• Project management, including planning and coordination of battery tests at cooperation partners and coordination of academic network.
• Manage a multidisciplinary team of professionals.
YOU ARE
We are looking for a communicative team player with a high level of flexibility. To be a good match with the team you need to be creative, innovative and analytical. We think that you are passionate about working with new sustainable materials and processes in an entrepreneurial and fast-paced environment.
In order to succeed in this role, you need to have solid experience in Project management and several years of practical track record in battery cell design and active anode material manufacturing, preferentially obtained at a battery cell manufacturer or OEM.
Your proficiency is based on a Master's degree in materials science and engineering - or comparable qualification.
Other core qualifications and skills:
• Good ability to develop and maintain an excellent contact network within Stora Enso as well as with external stakeholders.
• Ability to act as project leader but also function as a team member as required
• Ability to function in a matrix organization and work independently based on directives given from project steering groups or mill management.
• Proven ability to supervise consultants/experts to expected outcome
Projects can be located in different countries and therefore you need to be willing and flexible to travel when needed.
Our project development and execution resources are located mainly in Helsinki, Düsseldorf and Stockholm. Our working mode is hybrid and therefore your home base can be in Finland, Germany or Sweden, where Stora Enso has offices.
