About us
LPI is an international centre that supports and promotes nonviolent approaches to conflict transformation through a combination of research and action. At the core of this work is the strengthening of existing local capacities and enhancing the preconditions for building peace. For the past thirty years, LPI has partnered with civil society organisations and research institutions to strengthen locally-led peacebuilding processes through capacity development and accompaniment. Through programmes in Democratic Republic of the Congo, Ethiopia, Kenya, Somalia, and Sudan, LPI brings a range of participatory approaches and methodologies that are effective in creating space for dialogue, violence prevention, and peacebuilding action. LPI also supports the development of policies that help to improve the lives of people in places affected by violence, including through its Horn of Africa Regional Programme based in Addis Ababa. Increasingly, LPI is also seeking to link its work to the global policy discussions on peacebuilding and conflict transformation with a view to inform the theoretical and policy debates with the practice of lived experience of peacebuilders.
About your team
The Knowledge and Learning Unit (KLU) is a cross-organisational resource body to ensure that LPI proactively generates and applies knowledge across its programmes for enhanced quality of conflict transformation work. The KLU has several core functions: enhancing and supporting monitoring, evaluation and learning processes, generating new knowledge on selected thematic learning agendas, documenting LPI methods and models and providing support to various strategic and every-day programme processes and activities.
About your role
You will work closely with the other members of the KLU, with a focus on Monitoring, Evaluation and Learning (MEL), project and programme design, as well as analysis and research.
Your overall areas of responsibilities will include:
• Ensuring that LPI's Monitoring, Evaluation and Learning (MEL) systems are strengthened and updated with best practices.
• Ensuring LPI's monitoring practice, data systems and knowledge management across programmes
are in line with quality standards and donor requirements for MEL.
• Contributing to thought and process leadership of the KLU for LPI thematic learning agendas.
• Documenting and developing conflict transformation methods and models.
• Providing methodological and writing support to research undertaken in LPI in close collaboration
with LPI programme teams.
• Supporting utilisation-focused, strategic research dissemination.
• Support project and programme design process through facilitation and quality assurance.
• Other tasks as requested.

Staff supervised: Consultants, Interns
Location: Given the KLU's cross-organisational nature, the position may be based in any of LPI's current offices in Uppsala (Sweden), Nairobi (Kenya) or Addis Ababa (Ethiopia), as long as the successful candidate is legally allowed to work in that location or the required legal permits for work can be obtained within a reasonable time frame.
This is a full-time position, starting with a one-year contract initially, but with possibility of extension.
About you
• Master's degree in the field of peace and conflict research, political science, or other relevant
field.
• At least 3, preferably 5 years' experience of working with peacebuilding/conflict transformation
theory and practice.
• Demonstrated skills in programme and project design, including experience of working with
theories of change.
• Demonstrated skills in monitoring, evaluation and learning in peacebuilding programming.
• Strong analytical skills (conflict analysis) and solid knowledge of research methods (quantitative
and qualitative), including participatory research.
• Excellent computer literacy in Office 365 suit, including Word, Excel, PowerPoint, and SharePoint,
as well as data analysis software. (SPSS, NVivo, etc.)
• Proven experience in process facilitation and adult learning.
• Excellent writing skills, including for donor proposals and reports.
• Written and oral fluency in English essential. Working knowledge of French or Arabic are
considered a strong asset.
• Strong interpersonal skills and experience of working in culturally diverse settings.
• Collaborative and committed and able to handle a variety of work tasks and at times tight
deadlines.
• Willingness and ability to travel.
