Downing is a sustainable investment manager established in London in 1986. We strive to provide investments that benefit society and the environment, as well as meet our clients' financial needs. Our retail and institutional investors trust us with £1.7bn worth of assets that are invested into, for example, producing clean energy, improving healthcare, caring for the elderly, or building homes.
Downing is an innovative and established leader in the investment space. While Downing is based in London, we have recently expanded into Stockholm because of growth in our renewable energy portfolio.
The Role
We are searching for an accountant to be based in our Stockholm office. We are looking for an accountant at the beginning of their career to join the finance function within the asset management department, where the successful candidate will play an important role in our accounting team. This is a hands-on role in a growing company and would be an ideal move for a person who has a drive to continually improve and wants to contribute to Downing's growing investment portfolio in the Nordics.
Reporting to the Senior Finance Manager in Stockholm, this is a position that plays an essential part in the accounting and finance day-to-day activities within this fast-paced and growing business.
The finance team is currently made up of seven members located in London, Glasgow and Stockholm and is expected to continue to grow over the next year.
Tasks include but are not limited to:
Accounting
• Day to day accounting
• Customer and supplier ledgers
• Accounts payable/payments
• Accounts reconciliations
• Tangible/Intangible assets and depreciations
Reporting
• Participate and support the monthly and quarterly reporting
• Participate in the annual close including annual reports
• Support the rest of our Finance team in book closure activities
• Participate in various finance related projects
• Work with process improvements including implementation of new IT systems
The day-to-day accounting for the 10+ companies is currently outsourced to several external service providers, so the candidate will be extensively involved and play an important role in the project of bringing all finance activities inhouse during 2023. A workstream that will be carried out in close collaboration with the rest of the finance team.
Key Requirements and Capabilities
• Accountant with an academic degree in economics or similar
• At least 1-3 years proven accounting experience
• Enthusiastic and motivated team player, keen to achieve results and to meet deadlines with a high level of quality output
• Fluent in English and Swedish, both written and verbal
• Professional user of MS Excel and Office
• High level of personal credibility, openness and honesty, professionalism, and ethical standards
• Experience with Visma business system is advantageous but not a requirement. An interest in how systems and good processes can improve quality and effectiveness is advantageous.
