Strong research and attractive study programmes attract scientists and students from around the world. With new knowledge and new perspectives, the University contributes to a better future.
The normal gut microbiota represents 90% of the cells in the human body. By combining clinical and animal research, we have demonstrated that the gut microbiota affects our physiology and metabolism. We are now recruiting two assistant researcher to develop our bioinformatics platforms for the analysis of metagenomics and transcriptomics datasets with the aim of investigating how the gut microbiota is altered in different patient groups.
Job assignments
To help develop new pipelines for targeted gene screening and/or bacterial genomes assembly using WGS metagenomics data. To work with integration of multi-'omics' datasets generated from both the gut microbiota (e.g., fecal metagenomics and metabolomics) and host (e.g. intestinal transcript omics). To test and demonstrate newly released bioinformatics tools relevant to this research field. The will also analyze 16S rRNA gene profiling data using existing (QIIME/mothur) and/or other newer methods (e.g., amplicon sequence variants, aka ASV-based methods).
Qualifications
The successful candidate is expected to have a background in systems biology or bioinformatics, alternative biostatistics. The successful candidate should have documented experience with metagenomics analyses, both 16S rRNA gene profiling and shotgun metagenomics, and preferentially also other set of omics data (e.g., transcriptomics and metabolomics). The applicant should be at ease working in unix-environment and to work on computational clusters. Experience in regression analysis, multivariate analysis, and machine learning is advantageous. The applicant should be able to program in perl/python and also R, as well as creating and maintaining databases. It is imperative that the applicant is at ease collaborating with other scientists within a larger team. Large emphasis will be placed on personal suitability.
