hela Sverige Örebro University Library is seeking a writing instructor specialising in English and researcher support for a permanent position. The Academic Writing Centre is a part of Örebro University Library and provides professional support on academic writing in English and Swedish. Its core services include providing support for students in developing their writing skills, but in recent years, its focus has increasingly shifted towards supporting doctoral students and teaching staff. For this reason, the Academic Writing Centre is now looking to expand their target group further and set up a much sought-after writing support service geared also towards post-PhD researchers. Internationalisation is a priority area for development for Örebro University and today, our international recruitment of researchers is extensive.
Duties and responsibilities
As a writing instructor, your duties will include instruction and one-to-one tutoring on academic writing in English. In your role as an English writing instructor, you will be given a special mandate to set up and further develop writing support services geared to doctoral students and researchers, most of whom publish in English. Your duties and responsibilities include planning and developing the methods used for writing instruction, informed by both research and pedagogy. You will be planning and holding lectures, workshops and one-to-one writing instruction sessions, geared primarily to doctoral students, researchers and teaching staff, but also to students enrolled on Bachelor's and Master's level courses where the language of instruction is English.
At present, the Academic Writing Centre is home to three full-time writing instructors with a focus on academic writing in Swedish. You will be working closely with the other writing instructors, instruction librarians, university teaching staff, and the Centre for Academic Development.
Qualifications
You are expected to hold a research level qualification in the English language, or a qualification deemed to be equivalent. You are also required to possess good verbal and written Swedish skills.
Completed courses on teaching and learning, documented teaching experience, and experience from similar duties and responsibilities within higher education are considered an advantage. Your personal qualities include possessing communicative skills, being well-structured and having good interpersonal and team working skills, as your role entails close and frequent contact with researchers, teachers, students and other groups at the university.
Information
The position is a part-time/full-time (50-100%) permanent position, start date as agreed. The scope of the position is subject to agreement should you wish to combine the role with other work or self-funded research. Positions announced at Örebro University are, where appropriate, subject to a trial period. The salary depends on the successful candidate's qualifications and experience.
