While the potential of digital platforms is large, the introduction and growth of platforms are related to several challenges that need to be strategically managed. We now look for two new PhD Candidates who will contribute to develop our understanding of the strategic management and governance of digital platforms.
Healthcare is a sector that we are especially interested in. Digital platforms are increasingly used to improve the access, effectiveness, and efficiency of healthcare. However, unlike in many sectors that have shaped our current understanding of platform strategy, digital healthcare platforms cannot fully replace the existing healthcare system but must typically be integrated with existing solutions. This creates new strategy challenges related to, on the one hand, managing the introduction and growth of digital platforms, and, on the other hand, governing the surrounding healthcare ecosystem in such way that the value of platforms can be realized. These challenges must be strategically managed by both new platform firms and incumbent organizations to unlock the full potential of digital platforms in healthcare. We collaborate with both private platform firms and public healthcare providers in this important research, and strive to conduct research of relevance to management and policy. While one sector of interest is indeed healthcare, we believe that the research will have more general implications across industries.
In these two PhD Candidate Positions you will get the opportunity to become an expert in strategy. Together with your supervisors you will design and conduct a research project aimed to develop the strategic management and governance of digital platforms. Besides your research, around 20% of your time will be spent on contributing to teaching.

Information about the department and the project
You will be part of the Department of Technology Management and Economics and the Division of Entrepreneurship and Strategy. The division conducts research and education in strategy, innovation management, and entrepreneurship.
Major responsibilities
As a PhD student your major responsibility is to pursue doctoral studies in relation to the research aim. Overall, PhD studies include a number of doctoral courses, reviewing literature, designing research studies, interacting with industrial companies, collecting and analysing empirical data, and reporting research results.
As a PhD student you will also, to a maximum of 20%, be involved in teaching bachelor and master courses in the area of innovation economics and strategic management of IP, and/or other departmental tasks.
Qualifications
To qualify for the position you must have (or be close to finishing) a master's degree in industrial engineering, management, economics, medicine, or similar, corresponding to at least 240 higher education credits. You should have strong analytical abilities as well as an interest in working closely with practitioners on practically relevant problems. English fluency is required, both in written and verbal communication.
Contract terms
The position is a full-time temporary employment limited to a maximum of five years.
