Two industrial doctoral students in Energy Systems
REESBE (Resource-Efficient Energy Systems in the Built Environment) is conducted by the University of Gävle in cooperation with the Mälardalen University and the Dalarna University. REESBE is an effort that is made in close co-operation with the industry in the three regions Gävleborg, Dalarna, and Mälardalen, and is funded by the Knowledge Foundation (KK-stiftelsen).
Resource-efficient energy systems cover the entire chain from production to consumers' energy use including the organizational and institutional frameworks. The projects in REESBE are aimed at key issues in the interface between the business responsibilities of different actors in order to find common solutions for improvement of energy efficiency that are resource-efficient in terms of primary energy and low environmental impact. The projects include system studies of:
• delivery systems for heat and electricity;
• building installation technology systems for heating, ventilation, and electricity;
• user's patterns of use of electricity and heat, and;
• financial, organizational, and institutional conditions.
Employment as an industrial PhD student provides good opportunities to participate in interesting research that is directly useful in companies and to create networks in both academia and industry in the energy sector. The research school will start the 1st of September 2013.
In total, the research school includes twelve PhD students. They will attend the mandatory package of courses of the school covering 30 ECTS as well as further, optional postgraduate and master courses at the three universities of at least 30 ECTS The PhD students will actively participate in research and development in their projects and be positioned both at a company and a university. Most of the students are employed by the participating companies while some will be employed at one of the universities.
KvalifikationerTwo PhD students are employed at the University of Gävle. Placement, besides the University of Gävle, is the companies Gavlegårdarna/Gavlefastigheter and Repus Ventilation AB, respectively.

A priority is sustainable renovation of properties located within the district heating area, based on the management of materials and energy during the entire life cycle of buildings. Here, there is a great need to develop sustainable buildings and innovative system solutions as well as business models for reducing primary energy use and power demand. The project focuses on the design of energy efficient buildings in renovation without lowering the quality of living and working environment. The project is implemented in co-operation with Gävle Energi AB.
Repus Ventilation AB, reference HIG-STÖD 2103/166
There is a great potential for reducing energy use in ventilation systems can be realized with new technologies and operational optimization. The project focuses on the development of ventilation to optimize comfort with minimized energy consumption in buildings with users and managers in focus.

Another five industrial PhD student positions in REESBE hig.se/reesbe are announced, including two positions through Mälardalens University mdh.se and three positions through Dalarna University du.se.
Anyone who is employed as industrial PhD student at the University of Gävle is half the time placed on the partner company, the second half at the university, and shall primarily be engaged in studies, 80 %, while participation in other activities 20 %, at the company and the department of the university is also included. The term of the first appointment is one year. Appointments as a PhD student may be granted for a maximum of five years, however not longer than the equivalent of full-time postgraduate studies for four years. The salary is regulated by a local agreement for PhD students at the University of Gävle.
