The Science Directorate at the European Spallation Source (ESS) in Lund, Sweden, invites applications for a Technical coordinator for Neutron Science Support Facilities.
Description of directorate/division
The Neutron Science Division supports and coordinates the neutron research by (i) Academic activities such as outreach, education, in-house science activities, research collaboration; (ii) Collaborative research with various partners and local academic networks; (iii) Industry liaison and infrastructure. Various meetings such as Science Symposia, IKON, ESS S&S are co-organized by the division. The neutron science division organizes the ESS PhD programme.

As far as building the ESS is concerned the Neutron Science Division is responsible for the scientific infrastructure by specifying the required user support laboratories, the sample handling and the user access. In this it helps setting the policies on designing, building and operating a neutron science driven experimental facility.

Description of main responsibilities
An experienced technical coordinator is sought after to specify, set-up and operate neutron science support facilities at the ESS. The successful candidate will be part of the ESS science directorate and contribute specifying the scientific requirements for support factilites for chemistry, physics and life sciences. For this he/she will liaise with the expert scientists at ESS and with its local and international partners such as the neighboring MAX-IV laboratories. Also interfacing with the ESS conventional facilities construction programme is required. The successful candidate is expected to assist in operating current and future support facilities used for technical and scientific process development in anticipation of the research programme at ESS during the Operations Phase.      
Qualifications

• Candidates are expected to have a background in physical, chemical and life-science engineering or similar degrees (master level). 
• Experience in operating scientific research laboratories is required.
• Experience of working in an international environment is essential.
• Excellent oral and written English skills are a prerequisite; knowledge of other European languages would be an advantage.

The position is permanent with a six-month initial probationary period. Your work place will be situated in Lund, Sweden.
Working hours are general office hours, but occasionally you will need to be flexible and work evenings when required by laboratory process development.

The position is to be filled as soon as possible.
